The only fast/accomplished American man I can think of with a similar time profile is Pete Pfitzinger. Ran 14:04, 28:41, 2:11:43 and that was despite having more track experience before he took to marathons thanks to being in the NCAA. He was also more concerned with peaking for big marathons rather than shooting for fast time, reflecting the flavor of his era. (Obviously this is not to take anything away from Kawauchi, he's incredible.)

Most of our 2:11 marathoners today have faster 10K times than Pete and have surely all broken 14 minutes (?)

Those are the same results that I saw but the article I read seems to indicate that Kawauchi got 2nd. So if he did, he might have broken 29:00 as he'd be under 29:06.

his pr pace for marathon is about 30:21/10k. give him a break. he just ran 2:10 or under 5 times this year.

It's amazing that this guy who has never broken 29:00 regularly runs 2:08 marathons where AMerica has scores of 27 minutes guys running over 2:10.

Most American runners underachieve in the marathon. Look at Shalene and Kara. Both have been well below 31 and have 2,25 PB:s. Swedish record holder Isabellah Andersson (2,23) hash´t broken 32 despite quite a few attempts.

Given his finishing time, this really suggests that Yuki is an extremely efficient runner with lots of strength. Wonder what is weekly mileage is like?

Swedish, but Kenyan born. Her best is over 33min, that strikes me as someone who hasn't taken it seriously or is just optimized for the marathon.
