this might be of interest for stats guys out there
possibly the holy grail of stats is to find some better tables for distance races on track, the iaaf tables/macmillan/etc are woeful
i think i've made some serious headway & am 100% certain i have got 3 possibilities for any whole number 800 time & it's correct equivalent for 1k/1500
of those 3, i've used a very experienced eye & settled on 1 of those possibilities which i believe is the right answer
the calculator has been out there for years & i knew the answer was in there somewhere, but i coudn't quite nail it
the key was that all these distance times are logarithm decay & for 800, not to look directly for a 1500 or mile equivalent but double distance, meaning 1600m & seeing it is double distance, you look for a whole number 1600m time with whole number 800 time which will yield you the 1k/1500 as a consequence
( the above paragraph may sound difficult, but anyone with a solid maths background will understand )
so here it is
1'45.00 = 2'15.27 = 3'33.88
1'44.00 = 2'14.02 = 3'32.00
1'43.00 = 2'12.77 = 3'30.13
1'42.00 = 2'11.52 = 3'28.25
1'41.00 = 2'10.27 = 3'26.38
1'40.00 = 2'09.02 = 3'24.50
i believe this is the right one of the 3 possibilities for each 800 which i know definitely has the right answer in one of the 3, & above is result
now, next step is to get the equivalent for 3k, but i'm back at one of 3 ( or 4 ) possibilities, again, one of which is correct, but even i have to admit, i'll need some input to nail the right one
i'll post the 3k possibilities later
