Congratulations Desire. I like that she is slowly creeping her way back into relevance.

17 seconds off her PR, which she ran three months before her 2:22 in Boston.
Congrats to Desi. Glad to hear she's getting back.

Compare her comeback following a huge disappointment in London with the other 2 DNF's.
Ryan Hall shows no sign of ever returning to form and Abdi just pulled another DNS in Honolulu.
She has intelligently and quietly found races without the hype to work her way back into things.
Props to her and her coaches.
Abdi and Hall are being mismanaged. They are so busy chasing the next pay day that they forgot how to get back to racing. Abdi is just trying to extend his career but Hall is too young to be making the same mistakes over and over again.
Im not so sure , I think she is stuck and is not transitioning back as expected. She is not relevant on the world scene , really not a threat nationally at this point.
I think its maybe time for a coaching change.
I can appreciate Davila's approach. She had reached a pretty high level a couple of years ago. She's just doing a lot of decent running to try and get back to where she was. As fans we may not like her taking her time and racing so little to get back there, but look at what we do when runners try too hard to get into shape and stay injured -- we ridicule them for dropping out of all their races.
By all means this is a very good race for a girl whose strength has been in the distances.
She has a nice butt too. Must be those glute exercises
did she win?

That is not an easy approach. You have to put your Ego aside and allow some lesser runners to kick your ass. That is what Ryan Hall can't accept and why he will always be on the letdown train. Fans can also be a problem because they don't understand how tough it is to come back and expect these runners to win every time they race.

7th. She was out of the lead pack pretty early and ran a lot of it without any company. Winning time was 1:08:24 with top four all under 1:10.

Really. How many nationally are running 70min half marathons?
Desiree Davila / 2011 / Boylston St /thread
#2 in the US this year behind Shalane.

Would be funny if this was Kevin, Keith, or Desi trolling.
There must be some part of her being only 17 seconds off her PR, set three months before her Boston 2:22 that you don't quite get. Which part is it?

She also finished 5th in the Berlin Marathon this year (2:29:15). She's doing just fine.

How long is it until the next Olympics?
As far as Hall goes, he is the ONLY American in the last few years able to mix it up for wins in the marathon and I APPLAUD him for doing everything he can to try and win.
If that means going over the edge a few times, so be it. You can't be great if you don't take those risks.
When has Ryan mixed it up over the last 10k of a marathon other than the Olympic Trials. Desiree has that on her resume, Ryan does not.
