Best Middle Distance Training Method that Maximizes sped

I am a 800/1500 meter running with a program that involves a bit more speed. I have experienced with lydiard. The mileage has made me stronger however i don't like getting that far away from my speed. I've read some on coe/horwill training and the schul/gray/igloi method even though i don't fully understand them. I will soon be self-coached...how does one administer the Igloi intervals?

Thanks for the link but I still don't understand going about the Igloi method-basically I have no idea how to plan the workouts because when ever I see those old logs, the interval sessions seem to put together in an arbitrary fashion, unlike other methodologies there doesn't seem to be any clear cut periodization. I think that out of all the training methods out their, to train under the igloi system it was imperative to have igloi or one of his students as your coach. This is in contrast to programs such as Daniels and Lydiard, where one can apply their teachings quite easily to their training.

I am a big fan of Steve Magness and his Website! Yet somehow that article in the link slipped my eyes in the past. His Pure Speed training is something that I will definitely employ.

However I am still interested in what people would be considered the best training methodogy for FT mid-d runners, what do you think Letsrun?

I am mid-d FT, and you have to experiment with everything to find what works, including a period of max mileage for

aerobic development.

Ovett started as a sprinter. He and Coe had 21.x speed.

I trained under Johnny Gray's coach Merle and Laszlo Tabori - both use Igloi's training.

To understand it you need to get the manual.

Thanks, I will consider it. You say that you did some igloi training, had you ever used any other method's besides that? What I mean is did you ever try Lydiard or oother methods? If so what do you believe sets Igloi's method apart?

Would you consider the Igloi method to ere on the side of Moderate/moderate instead of Hard/Easy days?

I was a slow twitch distance runner. Mihaly Igloi was my coach for 20 months. Before that I spent 5 years doing the interval workouts of Coach Fred Foot and with Bruce Kidd, Bill Crothers and David Bailey.

Bob Schul has posted on both threads. Gerry Lindgren has posted on the Kidd thread.

I advise that you ere on the side of moderation. I found Coach Igloi's training extremely hard. Also remember to build your speed and distance slowly. Consistency is one of the keys to any training program.

I tried other training other than Igloi methods. I did not have as much success. I am more of a fast twitch mid-d runner.

For advanced runners:

Monday- Medium to hard interval day

Tuesday - Hard interval day

Wednesday - Easy recovery day

Thursday - Hard interval day

Friday - Easy recovery day

Saturday - Hard interval or road run day

Sunday - Easy recover day (or Lazso had Sunday has a sprint day)

Non-advanced runners - Have Monday's as a recover day.

Have you considered Coe-style training?
