Go for it.

Work on sprints, lift weights, look up videos to learn technique. Slowly work into doing plyometrics as well, but be careful as without experience they can cause injury. Ask your coach. Have fun with t an give it a shot.

How much do you weigh at 6'1?

i weigh about 165lbs.

Jim RYUN could have jumped 8'5" on MONDO takeoff in 2013 if he trained for EVENT.

The weight isn't too bad (depending whether its more muscle or dough). How are your sprint practices set up?

I need to check on this but jumpers usually are fairly skinny (high jumpers almost distance runner skinny, just look at the Quatari kid who took silver in Moscow) but can be quite powerful.

Listen to your coach but what I would probably work on (please anyone correct me most of this I have garnered from research not experience) is to work on power with weights (high weight low rep for the Olympic lifts), tempo (for jumpers this would be 100s and 200s at submaximal sprint effort with short walks in between) to help you get lean and to increase your aerobic and anaerobic capacity (you seem to lack both it seems), and basic plyinetrics (bunny hops, standing jumps, box humps, squat jumps, hurdle jumps, hell even jump rope).

Most important to work on though is TECHNIQUE. If available, ask your coach if you can practice using the high jump pit (may not be set up out of season). If the pit isn't available then just focus on the other things and try to become physically prepared to learn the art of high jumping.

High jumping take genetics. Your best bet is to try distance running as this takes no genetics or talent at all. Do miles... mega miles, and you will be able to run with the best of them.

please stop asking us what event you will be good at, maybe if you stick with something for just a few weeks you will see some improvement.

ok, great, you ran 88 seconds for 400m. just put a month of work in and PRACTICE and that will go down a lot.

15 seconds for 100m is fine, but if you want improvement on that then do some PRACTICE.

If you want to do high jump PRACTICE.

Seriously, we don't know you, only you and your coach do (unless you're a troll, in which case well played).

If you want to do something, do it, and stop asking questions.
