This is EXACTLY why what nike has done is inexcusable.
It's like having two watches on. You never really know what the correct time is.

HA. Troll.
They went out in 4:53/9:53. The top two guys probably went 4:40 for the last mile (including that giant hill).
Awesome finish too.
Once again, Footlocker comes out on top for the boys. The girls will be back now that Baxter/Cain are gone.
Ummmm. Who cares which race is better? I will take two GREAT races to one any day!

The boys' winning time was faster than the winning time in 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2009.
The girls' winning time was faster than the winning time in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2012.
So you were close.
Considering the amount of elite juniors at FL this year, it will be even more competitive next year. Not that it was this year because of the weak class of 2014. So next year FL>>>>>>>>>>NXN. At least for boys

Boys times not much better, have been years with entire field under 16...
Lol, a 17:30 and a DNF
Who really cares about the last 2 times???? Maybe they rolled an ankle or something? The top 2 times are FAST. Especially after being so tactical at the beginning.
Who cares about times in an x-c race? The goal is to win the race.

You had a good point about the juniors but then you made a bad point in assuming they will for sure be at this meet again.
For example Maton's team was only regionally good this year, next year they are a probable NTN team. No telling who will be where next fall.
I know the top three were all juniors but Maton, especially, still looks 12. I think he has A LOT of potential.

Overall both fields were the SLOWEST in Footlocker history. What a field of scrubs.

The race was slow. 4:50 and 9:53. Most of those guys probably went out faster in their conference meets. The Midwest Regional is a harder course than Balboa Park and most of those runners ran a lot faster there than today.
Still its surprising that the course record never gets challenged every single year. Cheserek could have gone out in 4:30 and 9:20 and ran under 14:30 on that course no problem. I guess its more tactical due to the better depth in high school running versus 20-30 years ago.
The top two finishers today will probably run 4:05 and sub 8:50 (as high school juniors). The slow time today has no relation to the quality of the field.

They went through the half in 2:20 and the mile in 4:53 with the whole field within a few seconds. It was definitely a tactical race. The kid leading early finished 50 seconds behind the winner. All the smart runners know it is a big mistake to lead early unless you are far better than the other runners.
12 juniors on the boy's side, not to mention the top 3 being juniors, means that this field just has a weaker senior class than we've seen in the past.
Assuming at least 8 of the juniors return next year, the race will be great. They all look to have a ton of potential. I expect the top 3 to all return next year, because, I mean come on, who doesn't return to footlocker after finishing in the top 3 your junior year.
As for the slow times, this was a very tactical race on the boy's side. 4:50 and 9:53 looked very controlled for the leaders, and they then went very hard over the last mile. Last mile was probably faster than Cheserek's or Verzbicas' last miles when they won during the past 4 years.
And on the girl's side, none of the big 3 were there (Baxter, Efraimson, Cranny), but the field was still strong. Taylor Werner was 5th at NXN last weekend, but she was only 9th today.
I wonder who's behind these anti-FL posts: Nike or just a mentally challenged individual? I hope you realize that changing your name a bunch of times doesn't fool anyone when you still write like a crazy person.
Austin Tamagno said he's doing FL. His reason was FL is more prestigious and he doesn't like the weather. Weather will play a big part in others' choices as well
Scrubs?
It was tactical
Top 3 juniors
I agree. Definitely a weak year for the seniors.
Above all, Grant Fisher is the real deal. 3:50 1500m as a soph, undefeated as a junior... This kid who has Canadian family according to his interview, might be the best in the country. Better than haney or cerake... Who knows

Agreed. Obviously a corporate flack with zero appreciation of the sport.

Someone who doesn't know the tradition behind the sport, and thinks progress is the answer when really tradition is the best bet
