If I live and train at 5,300ft, is that sufficient to race decent at 7,000ft?

Yeah, real altitude doesn't start until 9,000 feet.
SHUT UP AND SLOW TO A WALKING PACE BEFORE I HAVE THE SHARPSHOOTERS TAKE YOU OUT. AND NO, YOU CAN'T RACE FOR SHIT -- NOT AT 5,300', NOT AT 7,000' AND NOT AT SEA LEVEL. QUIT JOGGING AND TAKE UP SOMETHING PRODUCTIVE, LIKE EATING YOUR WAY INTO HAVING A GUNT LIKE MINE, SONNY BOY.

Can you race a 3K or a 5K just as fast at 8,500ft as you can at sea level?

Air Force academy patted me down

Are you the yellow shirt lady at AFA who doesn't allow jogging in the hallways? You'd think that 7,000ft would help people stay trim

Well I'm not sure I believe that because I brought a Heckler & Koch 9 mm onto the premises that fires hollow-point shells and and can take out a Klansman at a range of 500 yards, and I can't see for shit! They warned me now to mess around with it and I whipped out my prodigious penis and said, "MESS AROUND WITH THIS, PUNK!" The guy was clearly intimidated and waved me right through. SCORE!
Is there any evidence that arriving at 7000 night before would help
Are you the same homo who comes here all the time late at night boasting about picking up buff young men with shaved chests? You're a blight on the running community.

Which place has those?
No. Pressure is a negative exponential of altitude. Significantly low partial pressure of O2 at 7000' than at 5300'. I wouldn't risk it.

Wouldn't risk what?
You can run decent, but for me there was a big difference between 5,000 ft to 7000ft, then another step up in perceived effort from 7000 - 8500ft.

What distance races did you do?
Going up to 7000 from 5300 is not a big deal.
I live at similar elevation and have raced at over 9000 feet with no problems. Of course you will be slower but so will everyone else.
For one thing, to the Air Force official grousing about the ?missing" food items from the meet last night, I was there yesterday and am the same person who made off with some food that had been left out for a few hours during the competition. Clearly, no one was going to pick it up, so I helped myself because I forgot to bring my wallet and had the munchies after I did a bunch of jogging around the field house. What you failed to mention is that I also took an entire cheese pizza from Domino's that one of the teams (might have been New Mexico Highlands or some such nothing school) had ordered along with like 7 or 8 other pies, and my friend and I ate about 3/4 of it before feeding the remainder to Gretzky, my buddy's Irish setter. I'm eating the trail mix right now. It would have gone to waste otherwise, so I really don't want to hear any complaining from people at the USAFA.
For another, I think 7,000' hurts a lot worse than I would have guessed. There was some kid from Metro State who just finished 20th in D2 XC Nationals and has run close to 30:00 on the track for 10K and he had to fight pretty hard to average under 70 seconds per 400 last night. It wasn't pretty. Racing at that altitude is a far cry from "only" 5,350' or so where I'm based in Broomfield.
HAve a great weekend, folks. And thanks for the vittles.
AFA is a bit higher than flagstaff but not as high as Alamosa..
Gunnison is the highest of them all
If I had to race in Gunnison I would hope that at least some hot chick would be waiting because a hard pace at 7800ft has gotta feel like a hot sword up the colon
