I know there's loads of threads been done already but I can't for the life of me post in them. I offer my apologies for clogging the board up with another one but the topic intrigues me and I've been itching to add my thoughts.
I've been living in China for about 3 years now. I'm far from being expert on the place but I will offer what I can.
First, I don't buy that the Chinese Games ever carried more pretige than an international event. Why would it?
Secondly, and just to add a little context to the topic, Athletics is not a popular sport here at all. I haven't met one person in 3 years who is aware of what was achieved in 1993. Not one.
Last year I paid particular attention to the sports channel in the build up to the Olympics. I could talk you through Liu Xiang's WR step for step but I saw nothing of Wang or 1993. One of the greates human feats of all time and just a few seconds of chopped up footage available. If you don't believe that anything suspicious was up that day, I'd honestly like to hear your opinion on why you think the Chinese have never have released the video of their greatest spoting moment?
...and a lot of people write things that I can't find any verification for. Can anyone provide sources to support the following:
- Foreigners were present in the stadium
- Indepandant timing officials were present
- The event was televised (either live or at a later point)
Here's hoping for some replies...
