What is the best way to dress for a cold weather race? Never done one before and I'm doing a turkey trot on Thanksgiving..
Supposed to be 29 degrees. Should i go long sleeve, hat, gloves, and shorts? Just dont wanna be slowed down a lot.
Or long sleeve, tights, hat, gloves.

If you have them split the difference and go with half tights. If not running shorts should keep you warm enough. The only times I've broken out full length tights for a race were two occasions when it was single digits.
Also be sure to race in socks. I've ran cold cross country races sock-less and my feet went numb. Not fun.

I hate this website sometimes.
Long sleeve, gloves, shorts. No hat. Also can wear short sleeve shirt and arm warmers.
You will be running hard, so will warm up more than on a standard run.
I ran a race yesterday and it was mid-high 20s with 20mpw winds. I wore compression socks, shorts, long sleeve, hat and two pairs of gloves. If it wasn't for the wind I think I would have been pretty comfortable but my hands were throbbing at the end even with two pairs of gloves on and it took about 15 minutes of sitting in the car with the heater on to be able to untie my flats and get my trainers back on.
As far as legs go, shorts should be fine unless you get into the low 20s with crazy winds. I've always felt I run faster in tights with the added compression but maybe that's just me. Either way, it shouldn't make much of a difference. Do w/e makes you feel most comfortable.

29 degrees with or without the wind chill? 29 degrees itself isn't too cold; you can run with shorts just fine.
Gloves are a must, though. I ran a 5K without gloves in late October, early November and my hands were freezing since it was in the mid 30s.
