Anyone know when his surgery was, what exactly the procedure was, or who he saw? Pretty remarkable that he's already racing if the surgery was over the summer. Thought this surgery took 6 months to recover from.

People are recovering faster thanks to new technologies.
Compound fractures will be repaired in a couple of weeks in 10 years. Don't act so surprised.
He probably used some deer antler spray.
He is very lucky to be back racing so soon. Would love to know when the surgery was and what exactly it entailed. Removal? Repair? Did they shave the bone down?
Surgery in March to repair a severely torn labrum and shave down the offending bone on his femur, started running late summer and hitting big miles quickly. The dude is a legend-- the Letsrun posters dream runner. You guys have no idea
Surgery in March? That's not outrageous. I had the surgery and was prescribed 16 weeks of no running, but could aquajog within a month or two IIRC. I was allowed to be on the Alter-G at 14 weeks I think? If your recovery went very smoothly it's not unreasonable to go from surgery in March to racing in 6-8 months. That being said, I know of one professional marathoner who had the surgery, rushed back into training, and reinjured the area, which pretty much ended his career. So I really don't think it pays to be bold with coming back from surgery. Some doctors still only do a repair on the labrum itself and don't shave down the femur at all. That surgery has really short rehab time, but the best docs don't even do that anymore because the labrum will just tear again from the hip FAI.

Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Matt Choi was drinking beer halfway through the Boston Marathon
