OMG, who the hell wrote that? Are they joking "only 30 seconds away from the world record" wow, and I'm "sub" elite.
lol
This. THIS! Is why our sport is dying. The average joe just has no idea.
p.s. In high school I was only 2 seconds off the WR in the 100m!!!!
Wow! Accorepding to this article, you're sub-elite!! Awesome- lol
In all fairness, I'm sure the athlete who this was written about is just as embarrassed as we are for him.
an astounding 4:13, that dozens of high schoolers better every year

4:13 is a fine mile time but...

He was only Army's third fastest miler last winter too.
Actually, he was only 25 seconds away. Patriot Leauge "Indoor" Track and Field Championships.
To call the whole thing stupid seems so sorely understated...
It was more impressive that he won the 4 X 800 by himself.

LOL. Sometimes when people who play other sports ask me my mile PR (4:46, I know, hobbyjogger), they say "Why didn't you just try a couple more times to get under 4?"

The Business Insider is not a legitimate publication in the media world. Their content is not exactly credible.

I am the cadet written about in this article, and I would like to emphasize the above quote. Wasn't asking for attention, and I actually tried my best not to let the authors of the article know anything about my running. I'll even say that I didn't run a 4:13 at Patriots last winter, or win a 4x8 by myself. But hi, everyone.

Hmmmm.....if this is you cadet, welcome to LetsRun where no one is safe from any article, written about anything remotely about running. Keep it up and thanks for your future service....you're more of a man than most here...
He's only 20 seconds slower than Alan Webb was in high school!
And to clarify, I sure as hell can't run a 4:13 mile and it's not a bad time at all. That said, if anyone wanted to write an article about how I was "x minutes" off of any world record, I wouldn't let them.

Ditto. Nice work, and my condolences that part of it was spoiled by a silly article!
