What were Marty's best accomplishments and PR's? I personally thought he did great commentary throughout the olympics, especially the Women's marathon?

3:52 and 13;15. Don't know the fractions. 13:15 was AR. Sub 4 in HS and Olympian as teenager. Stud at Villanova, but don't know about NCAA champs.
Are you kidding - he referred to Hendrick Ramaala as the world's best road racer and then backed it up by talking about his World Half Marathon win over .. 12 miles! I think he is stretching his knowledge when commenting on the marathon. It is so different than the track.
And what the hell about this comment where the marathoners decided to try their luck at something longer (vs. the track events). Why the reference point to the track? Not sure if it was Marty, but it was repeated several frigin times!
Olympic Team in 68 barely out of high school. 3:52 mile. AR in the 5k 13:15. #1 in the world. Many time national champ at Villanova. Nothing special.
I heard that 12 mile comment. Big deal. Overall, the boy knows what he is talking about. Thanks for the PR info from the other post.
Did he graduate the same year as squirrel or not? I can never remember. Keogh always talks about how he decided to go to Manhattan and Marty went to Villinova...with a degree of reserved disappointment in his voice. Anyhow, I forgot if they graduated a year apart or not.
And Marty was second in the second Falmouth 1974 right Malmo?
I was pretty disappointed with most of his commentary. "meters" seems to be a forbidden word to liquori, and his insights were minimal. I apologize taht I can't sight exact examples -- I had a much better tim listening to Tim Hutchins on Eurosport.
Liquori's job, which he admittedly does not do exceptionally well, is difficult in a marathon. He is trying to keep an audience for two and a half hours while the camera basically shows men running down a street. He is almost bound to say something stupid or wrong. He could drop all the Seko/Virgin battle, Jim Peters, Carlos Lopes references in the world, but his audience, including many on this board, would not get them because of age or interest. He didn't do a great job, but I'm willing to give him a little breathing room on this one.
Liquori is part of the bedrock of US distance running. HE has been involved with everything from REtail (Athletic Attic co-founder) Running shoes (Brooks at the beginning). Obviously TV/events...commentary...etc. On top of being a top athlete in the 70's (#1 World 5K)..He has forgotten more about running than most of us....So what if he is not up to the minute these days? It's good to hear his voice and his insights despite his occasional mis-speaks.. ..
HE along with Pre..Shorter...is a national running treasure..
Great job in Athens Marty..was good to hear a familiar voice.

Liquori graduated from Essex Catholic in 1967 and made the Olympic team after his Villanova freshman year. Mike Keogh graduated from Essex Catholic in 1970.

Nothing special? Are you fu**** kidding me! They guy ran 3:52 and a 3:5x as a HS and you say nothing special! Do you know anything about the sport?
Sheesh.
Letsrun these days.
Marty was a great runner...but a lousy commentator. Just a little to smug!

I agree with your final remark. That's the only part you typed with your fingers; the rest apparently spilled out of your ass.

College grads these days, they get dumber and dumber. Pssssst THE JOKES ON YOU.
methinks you know not of Malmo's sarcasm
College grad you just got played.
I like how you all criticize him. How many of you have run a 3:52 and a 13:15?
Maybe College Grad took a sarcasm pill themselves? Just a thought.
