I just want to congratulate the guy in the light blue shirt who instantly reacted to the Lima tackling by going after the crazed fan. He was on the situation immediately (well before any police) and appears to have been the one who pulled the tackler off of Lima.

In fairness to the cop he was off his bike and was next man in, the foreshortenlng effect of the camera lens makes it appear he was closer than he in fact was.
Wasn't meant as a bash of the Athen's police or marathon security. It is viturally impossible to completely police a 26.2 mile course, and if a whacko has it in his/her mind to get to a runner, very little can be done to stop them. I just wanted to give some props to the light blue shirt dude since he acted without hesitation and took control.
Scariest thing about the incident is, what if the guy was a suicide bomber who had explosives strapped to his body? What a horrible "victory" for the terrorists to blow up the lead Olympic marathon runner live on world-wide television in front of billions. It would be like watching the 2nd plane hit the WTC live on Sep. 11. Thank God it was nothing more than a protester.
They don't have very many kooks to blow themselves up. The ones who are willing to do so must be used for maximum loss of life.
Don't get scared in to thinking there are 200 million kooks like this in every nook and cranny in the world. They are very limited and what they can do is limited as well.
Please don't call that wacko a protester. If you have any idea what he was protesting (other than his own insanity) please enlighten us. Otherwise it's an insult to the vast majority of sane, peaceful protesters ... who know what they're protesting.
