Does this seem like an odd casting to anyone?

I'm just excited for another running movie. The first in a very long time.
great, but I always thought that kid was a natural to play John Lennon in a bio pic.
Should be magic

what is your mission in life? do you think your annointed job is to claim everyone is on drugs? bit hollow, that, no?
the casting is fine - I gots no problems with it.
Terrible casting. I really don't think the guy is a good actor at all and I seriously cannot imagine him playing Seb Coe in any form and doing it justice.
Saying that, a running movie should be cool and something to keep up to date on. Hopefully they cast someone much better as Ovett, I find myself unable to think of someone in my opinion who would be ideal for that role though. Hmmm, will have to do some thinking.
It would be cool if there was any British athletes who were fine actors also to fill these roles. I don't think Mo would make a good Ovett.... ;)

That's punny
I hope they get Gandalf to play Peter Coe
I'm a big Seb Coe fan but I don't think there's enough there to make a good movie. His life would make a good 1-hour documentary for running nerds but what would the plot be for a regular movie?
I've only seen Radcliffe in Harry Potter movies but he doesn't seem to have Coe's cockiness and aggressiveness.
I am thinking Willem Defoe as Ovett.
Or Ralph Fiennes...
;-)
interesting to see if he is/can look the part of being athletic enough to be passable
I actually think Radcliffe is a good choice. I think he looks the part, similar height, build, looks, although it remains to be seen whether he can pull off looking like Coe when he runs!?
I think there is plenty of material for a 2 hour film, as is apparent if you read Pat Butcher's book.
Having followed Coe from the beginning of his career, I really don't see how he can be perceived as "cocky"? Ruthless and driven, aloof even, but not cocky. If Coe is cocky what does that make Ovett's hand waving down the home straight before the race is even finished?
When I first read the title of the thread, I was a little disappointed. But the more I think about it, the more alright it seems. I really can't think of any actor who looks much like Seb Coe, and as someone pointed out, their builds are somewhat similar, so how much can you complain. He'll likely bring some attention to the film that normally an athletics movie wouldn't attract. I bet that formula 1 movie Rush benefited from casting the actor who plays Thor.
Hope they use a body double for the running scenes--no way he has a stride like Coe's.
Good choice in terms of looks, terrible choice in terms of the fact he can't act and will therefore ruin the movie.
As far as the cinematic value of this film, how good can it really be when the climax of the film is Coe's shouting and pointing angrily at the press for their criticism after winning gold in the 1500m at the L.A. Olympics?
500m into an 800m race, your legs are getting heavy, your stride is shortening up, the Dementors are sucking the breath from your body, "Expecto Patronum!" to the rescue. This is going to be a great movie.
I find the casting less odd than the press release announcing it, which describes Coe as a "four-time Olympic gold medalist." I've heard of films being criticized for revisionist history but I'm pretty excited to see how they're going to pull that one off.
Couple shots of him running:

He might want to tie his shoes a bit better.

They get away with that because 99 out of a 100 members of the public haven’t got a clue as to how many gold medals Coe won.
One of the least popular athletes in Britain, (amongst athletes, not the press) I still think he should have been given a place in the British team for the 1500 at the 88 Olympics.
He missed out in the trials having picked up a chest infection training at altitude.
A half fit Coe would have won that year in one of the most mediocre 1500s in recent Olympic history.
Hell, our Peter Eliot got the silver running with cortisone injections for an injury in the final.
So that would have made 3 gold medals - sounds a bit better.
Whatever happens, I guarantee that the running scenes will have athletes falling about with laughter.
