$50,000 is on the line this weekend as the action takes place in Oregon today and tomorrow with Nick Willis and Bernard Lagat two of the 30 entrants in the pro division.
The event will be on for free at http://oomba.tv/
Here are the bios of the 30 person field (there are women competing): http://oomba.tv/speedgolfinternational/2013#players.
Those bios make me laugh. You've got Olympic medallists competing against guys who were the MVP of their high school volleyball team. The defending world champ is two time Big East golf champ Chris Walker.
You gotta give Nike credit. They've designed Bernard Lagat his own speed golf shoe. Check this out:

Lagat's tee-time is 11:28 am ET. Not sure about Willis. The beauty is a round only takes about 45 minutes. Willis said he'd be pleased to shoot 85 in 45 minutes.
I think I might actually watch.

We gave the great miler Steve Scott to thank for this...
"Scott is also regarded as the founder of speed golf in 1979; on December 2, 1982, Scott set a record for the fastest round of golf played on a regulation course, completing 18 holes in 29 minutes, 33.05 seconds at Miller Golf Course in Anaheim, Calif. Using only two clubs and running from hole to hole, he posted a respectable score of 95."

This event seems like too much of a sprint for ultramarathoner Karl Meltzer. But I like his bio elements - a multisport threat:
* NH junior golf runner up
* Winningest 100 mile ultra runner on earth, with an astounding 35 100 mile wins
* Professional ultrarunner -
I think it will make it more interesting having different backgrounds of the players...
Isn't Lagat facing the wrong way...;). At least he's line up correctly, nice grip, maybe could use a little choke since the driver looks bigger than him!
Looking forward to watching this... -
I can see myself getting obsessed with golf once the passion for running wanes, so it would be fitting to combine the two. Looking forward to see what this looks like.

Is the feed working for people? I've tried internet explorer and Chrome and it doesn't work.
-
nope not working for me either
-
Can't seem to load the live feed but scoreboard is up. Looks like Nick teed up first? He's the only one with a score on hole 2 (507632)--no clue how they score, anyone know?
-
It's working now--Nick 1110811 on hole 4
-
Lagat is coming up, they interviewed him a bit. He's carrying a 5 wood, 7 iron and a putter.
-
WHat the hell does the scoreboard mean?

is that a mistake or some listing of his time and score that is missing spaces? -
Lagat, oh boy--he just tripled bogey on his first hole. He's sprinting to his plays but need to slow down when he makes his plays.
Yes, to Dennis.
Nick's score 4974464 hole 15. -
According to wikipedia, total score is the sum of time and strokes. I don't know how you would really score things while the event was in progress.
Those numbers on the scoreboard seems like nonsense to me -
God, watching this makes me really want to try it. Looks hard as hell.
Do you have to carry a bag? I think I'd take like 4-5 clubs but just in a satchel or no bag at all. Running with the bag looks brutal. -
No clue about the scoreboard, it's your golf score plus your time and minutes to complete the course. Whoever has the lowest score wins. Basically, won't know until the end. The feed is down now...crap
-
If he's shooting 90 on a good day (assuming just plain golf), then I'm guessing he'd be lucky to break 100 today.
-
This reminds me of the biathlon (xc skiing and shooting). Makes me wonder about heart rate control.
-
Scott Gerweck is only carrying a 6 iron and nothing else...

How do you train for this? Just run and golf separately? Or make sure you get the first tee time at the course when you play?
Nick Willis @nickwillis 17 Oct
Coach Warhurst had me do 25x300m at the range today with a shot b/w each interval.
