Almost an hour into the Toronto Waterfront Marathon, the entire broadcast has been directed toward the elites. Not one crowd shot, human interest story, interview with a baker with lupus.

It was kind of humorous earlier, they'd just talked about the dangers of crossing the train rails then the runners came up on an aid station and the whole station was set up such that the runners had to go back and forth across the rails. Not the safest set-up.
I believe that the announcer said that Gillis is on sub
2:10 pace for the Canadian record.

They just did a feature on Mike the sign guy. I actually enjoyed it a lot. I must be getting old.
As for the masters guys, they are amazing/crazy. The Japanese guy - 61 - does 15k in the morning and 15k in the evening EVERY SINGLE DAY with km repeats thrown in there. That's amazing.
THen Ed Whitlock at 80+ runs a 400 meter loop in a cemetary each day. Crazy stuff.
Yes, Gillis went through the half in 1:04'41 and Watson in 1:05'05... both on pace for the NR.
A great shot of Ed Whitlock running like he is 25 years old!
Great coverage!

Is Ed running Toronto today? He often does. Any splits for him? Go Ed!
I just tweeted at Tim.
THey don't know what Gillis is running but he's on 2:09:32
@TimHutchings1 Gillis is at 1:32:06 at 30k which is 2:09:32 - Robert
Why don't these races just hire me to track their tracking websites?
From my link, 10 km in 49:01. 3:26 pace.
Gillis is on 2:09:32 pace at 30k. 1:32;06. Watson was 1 minute behind exactly.2:10:56 pace.
Lanni Marchant and Krista DuChene are on track for a 2:26 finish. Canadian Women's Marathon Record currently stands at 2:28:36
Unofficial
Eric Gillis 2:11:45
Well they did my pet peeve. Showed the back of the winner after he finished instead of just putting the camera on the finish line.
Then they showed the race commetnators instead of the finish line.
Why would't the camera be straight on so you can see if anyone is coming, particularly if it's a Canadian? If this was an American race and people were going for the American record, I know people would be irate they aren't showing the finish straight on.
Nonetheless better than nothing.
Quick takes:
They did talk about Ed Whitlock for about 10 minutes. Not that I minded. Go, Ed!
The trio of commentators are OK. Nice to have Coolsaet in there.
The guy in the middle seems really left out of the conversation between the British guy (who is great) and Coolsaet.
The fact that ALL THREE of them have repeatedly checked and typed in their phones on camera is absolutely embarrassing.
I got my GF to watch with me and the main thing she noticed was not ONE SECOND of women's coverage until after the men were done. Not good.
Overall I'll give it one thumb up.
Tracker shows the hunt for the Canadian women's record is on. Not that you'd know from the CBC commentary.

I noticed that in Amsterdam marathon today as well. Women's race wasn't shown at all and the broadcast ended after the men's finish. Quite odd.
The leader was led off course with 150m to go. Unbelievable. He followed the police car when it turned off course.
They clearly just don't have enough cameras
Rob Destroyer Watson in 2013:
2:15, 2:16, 2:19, 2:13:30
Coolsaet's joke - Rob learns to never do that again
New Canadian women's record
Lanni Marchant 2:28:00
