Someone on here was saying in another thread that you can qualify for boston with a 10k and 1/2 time.. I've never heard of this before.. (Other than for NYC Marathon and Chicago)

Not the case. You can only qualify for Boston by running a marathon (or buy your way in through charity). You can qualify for New York with a half, but the guaranteed entry time standards are tougher than Boston's.
i am sure if rupp wanted to run boston based on his 10k times, they would allow him into the race, probably even give him a 50-100k appearance fee.

Celebrities can get into Boston without a qualifying marathon. Charity entries also can get in, and I'd assume that some bibs are allocated to sponsors as well.
Of course, as posted above, elite athletes can get in even if they have never run a marathon (Mosop ran a pretty fast time there in his marathon debut).

If someone has a silver medal from the Olympics and wants to run, I don't really see that as being the same as letting in someone with their smokin' 38:00 from the local turkey trot.
In times past, for the US Olympic marathon trials, QT's can be from a half marathon or even a 10K. Maybe someone on letsrun confused that with Boston QTs. Big difference.

there are actually more sponsor/invitational entries than charity entries - esp. for 2014
If you are rejected from the race, you can still write a letter to BAA. They will read your case and almost 95% you will be accepted. That is only if you have missed the cut-off by a few seconds
Not a lot of people in this running community know about this!
Yes you can. Have your agent contact the Elite Athlete Coordinator. If you don't know Patrick or Mary Kate don't worry about it, your agent will. They will often let sub 27:30 or sub 61 minute half marathoners in for their debut.
If you do not have an agent or you are not close to those times then RUN A FRIGGIN MARATHON AND QUIT LOOKING FOR A LOOPHOLE.
caps are unnecessary.i was stating the facts. another loophole is the age group lag period. if you are 34 years old and ran the old standard by plus or minus 5 minutes you can still qualify onto the next agegroup

That practice won't happen this year, amigo.
