I am going to guess that the island of manhattan is at least 500,000 Titanics (my unit of weight for this exercise) heavier. It's probably many many times more than that, but I'm just guessing.

Because it hasn't hit an iceberg yet. Good think Manhattan is so far south.
9/11 helped a little...
Hank Johnson says, "My fear is that the whole Island will become so overly populated that it will tip over and capsize."
Just like other Americans, Manhattan is sedentary and eats too much junk food so it's only natural to pile on the pounds after 200 years.
3 lbs
I thought Manhattan sent so much trash to Jersey that it was actually getting lighter?
surface area has almst doubled. This keeps it from tipping over
I think the more interesting question is how much heavier it is each day, as opposed to the night. Commuters weigh a lot.
you realize that they dig up as much weight if not more when they build a new building right??
There is a PBS special about the changing footprint of Manhattan from three or four years ago.

We should expand every coastline like Manhattan, and take over the world!!! BWOO HA HA HA!!!
