How many athletes would be able to do this with this much money on the line.

none at the moment. races have become slower due to Farahs tactics and the African idiocy in failing to properly counter or beat them, but that doesnt mean if the best were to give it all for a fast 10k time they could near let alone beat 26:20.
KB, Geb...
Ain't gonnuh happen. If someone can do that once on the track, good chance they can do it again in the same season. Not so with the 'thon.
Sure that is a lot of money. This is WR. The fastest man on earth. Not exactly a walk in the park. With that said up the incentive is too small. Up to 500k to A million. The record will be gone in 3 months. Remember that race Geb did years ago. They offered a million bucks for 10k road record if I remember correctly. Boom broken immediately.
There was a 1 million dollar bonus out there for breaking 8 minutes in the deuce. Geb couldn't go that. 10k road is a bad example because it was some weak sauce for a long time.
likes of kipsang/kimetto/mutai/etc have a comparator in paula
no one is going to seriously believe paula even at her 2"15 peak is better than 2"03 guys - all she did was with male pacers the whole way, got a good time in a still very weak event
in '02 she ran 2"18'56/30'01/2"17'18
not sure which M form she was more likely in, in her 30'01, but more possibly the 2"18 as she ran the 10k after this
either way, using 2"03'23wr, their possible 10k based on paula ranges from
30'01 * ( 2"03'23 / 2"17'18 ) = 26'58
30'01 * ( 2"03'23 / 2"18'56 ) = 26'39
i'd probably go towards the latter for reason above
also worth repeating those estimates using a 29'50 for paula as that 30'01 was solo & on a cold, wet day - usual TT woud expect pacers to 5k & nice weather ( i'd keep the Ms the same as they were pretty much ideal runs )

I would reconsider this statement. I do believe Paula's 2:15 is at least equivalent to Kipsang/Kimetto today.
I think more athletes would go for the 10k

not if you go with ~ 9% difference between male/female clockings which i reckon is best figure after a lotta research over the years
With that kind of money going to PED research, I'd say quite a lot!
That incentive is already out there.
Anyone that hits that time will likely earn $100K more in bonuses and appearance fees over the year.
What for?
