The opening scene was the best possible cinematic use of The Doors This is the End. That's for sure.

The opening scene of SPR is amazing. The end is very moving, but in between it is a pretty generic war movie to me although I really enjoyed it.

I think Apocalypse Now is a bit overrated.

Try The Green Berets

SPR was average. I didn't like it that they tried to make the Germans the bad guys when we all know WWII was just a another civil war, i.e. the next chapter, in the long history of Europe.

Best, most violent war scene, when Bugs Bunny shoots Daffy Duke in the face with a shotgun, and Duffy`s beak spins around his head.

SPR was a typical Spielberg tear-jerk. Start them out thinking the old man is Tom Hanks, then at the end nope, he's Private Ryan, cry cry. Worst filmmaker in Hollywood.

The best Vietnam movie is Full Metal Jacket, and the best war movie overall is Starship Troopers, which parodied 9/11 and the Iraq war before they even happened.

Apocalypse is pretty easily my favorite war movie, if not my favorite movie all together.

Das Boot FTMFW! Great movie if you can handle German with subtitles and following a Nazi U Boat around.

"Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS" is way better.

In fact, Spielberg has never made a movie that rose above the level of "good for a Hollywood movie" status.

You want to watch great American movie creators, watch Scorsese, Coppola, the Coen Bros.
