I grew up a Redskins fan in DC, but, to be honest, have always wondered how they get away with the name in this day and age. The current owner has been adamant that the name won't be changed, but pressure from politicians on both sides of the aisle is mounting. So will they change it, or never?
They could change it to Redskin Potatoes

Who is the they you are referring to? I am sure that Congress is not spending any time at all on this issue. The Native Americans offended by the offensive name have every right to speak on this issue. Personally I think it is long past time to throw away this name. Unlike the other team names you list the team name in question, Redskins, is a racially derogatory term. Changing the name makes sense to me.
Yes, they will change it. Snyder will demand $100M+++ in compensation to make it happen at some point in the future.
Of course those Indians don't wanted to be associated with a pathetic losing team like the Redskins. If they were winning the superbowl, they would want to be part of the parade celebrating the victory.

This whole issue is ridiculous to me, this country just won't stop until we find a way to not offend a single person with anything. If they change to the "Nationals" as was proposed won't we offend the internationals on the team or in the community. People need to get a little bit thicker skin and realize they aren't going to agree with everything that happens in life. Sad thing is that it's probably just going to get worse with the "everyone gets a participation medal" generation that is getting older and starting to move into roles with authority.

If there was a team called the Oakland N words would that be ok? It's not about thicker skin, it's about a word that is very hurtful to a group of people. There is no word that is hurtful to white people so you don't understand.
Braves, Seminoles and Blackhawks are not offensive terms.
Indians is questionable since that name just started out as a mistake.
I don't think you could name a team the Brownskins.
Even if redskins is not meant to be offensive, it just matters how it is perceived.

Who would he demand it from and who would pay him, the NFL, some type of native American group? Snyder is a good businessman, but a proven failure on the actual field of football. The franchise brand is valuable, so this appears to be his major concern, not the actual team, who hasn't won a Super Bowl since 1991. He made his money in telemarketing and advertising, so he knows the importance of marketing the image/brand, and appears to care little of the substance.
No, I agree with you, that would not be okay. But I just want to know where we draw the line with what offends people? There are so many different groups of people out there that you could make a case that any name would offend some group. I personally don't get offended very easily, but there are certainly words that are hurtful to white people.
Your analogy of calling them the Nationals offending internationals on the team is beyond short sighted. Why would international athletes be offended by an American nationalistic name when they are playing in a sports league in this nation (and it works in baseball, a much more international sport so your point is moot). While I think people in general could be a little more thick-skinned and not so offended by everything they see and hear, this is different. Redskins is an offensive term and the stupidity of the continued use of it is only eclipsed by the arrogance of the team and the league in summarily dismissing those that are offended.
Many near DC just call them the Skins anyway. If they put a football (pigskin) on their helmet, they can just drop Red.

Most Indians are not offended by the term. Only a very vocal minority.
