They don't call it Paul "short" Short for nothing
His time is 20 sec faster than Chalenga in 2010. Also, 40 sec faster than Springer in this race. How does this time rate?
The winner of the open race ran 4:50 pace. Last weekend he ran 4:39 pace on a the roads for a 10k (rolling, net downhill) Seems comparable times.

You should check out last years "Is Paul Short short?" thread. Or maybe the one from any first weekend in October. Here is the 2005 version:
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?board=1&id=1051526&thread=1051526So, you think this is a valid time at Short, relative to past times at Short? If so, this is an incredible time.
23:13 is no joke.
didn't know that it was faster than chelanga. if so, we have a new front runner in the ncaa.
I'm sure that runners like him don't care about ratings from people who do nothing in their profession but rate other people.
seems pretty fast for some guys.

The course is not short. It was firm (not wet and soggy) for the first time in a few years at this meet. The leaders got out fast and rolled. We just need to recognize the kind of shape Leakos is in.
That's pretty impressive to run a sub 29:00 10k and then turn a round in a week and run a 24:00 8k. What 10k was it?
Not short. I measured the course yesterday with a wheel - 8,027 meters. I've suspected the course was short for years - guess I was wrong.

Cornell XC
Williams (D3 NE) averaged 25:21 with two guys under 25 (Colin Cotton the lead guy in 24:20 ish). This seems a bit hard to believe, but at any rate, most of their guys were about 1.5 minutes faster than at the Williams Invitational recently.
The winner from Harvard has run 13:56/29:xx before but seems to have stepped it way up to run 23:13.
Williams ran one heck of a race. Everyone busts on D3 on this forum, but they earned it today. Call their times a joke if you must, but remember that place is non-subjective. They beat some REALLY good runners out there today.

This article about Chelanga's 2008 course record gives some perspective. 23:13 is pretty good for a guy from Saskatoon.
"Chelanga blazed his way to a 23:05 clocking in Friday's race, averaging 4:39 per mile. By way of comparison, former Liberty standout Josh McDougal ran 23:43 on the same course as a freshman, in 2004. McDougal's effort stood up as the course record until last year's Brooks Paul Short Run, when Villanova's Bobby Curtis posted a 23:39. Curtis went on to win the national title at 5,000 meters at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships."

Pittsburgh Great Race
He won pretty easily. Runs right by Duquesne where he goes to school. Newspaper said he just had track eligibility left.

Leakos (Harvard) is finally healthy and has looked good in his earlier races from this year. He ran a 23:32 earlier in September at Franklin Park for the Harvard-Yale meet.
http://gocrimson.com/sports/xc/2013-14/releases/20130914a96gfpAs a guy who ran the course with a GPS watch the day before and had a coach who measured the course the day before, Paul Short is absolutely not short (both means of measuring got just over 8000m, 4.99 miles with the GPS watch and 8010 meters or so with the wheel). I've run the course for the two years prior as well and the course was just much faster this year because it was drier, assuming you could also run well in the heat. Leakos' time puts him as a frontrunner for the NCAA individual title.
Certainly hope that Leakos stays healthy and that he has a breakout year...
He's been good in September for a few years now... Then...
