What's up with that they saving him could be world record time.
prelim
Is the world record possible? Thats one smoking WR.
All Records - 4x400m Relay - Men
World Record
2:54.20 United States USA Uniondale 22 07 1998
splits???
no way
Athlete PB
Young 44.09
Pettigrew 44.21
Washington 44.28
Johnson 43.18
This team will win going away; 2:56 at best I think
So Young was in the WR race?
NO WAY World record....
The world record team from 1992 I think was even more talented than the current WR team. Johnson was suppar with a Hamstring injury, but they still ran 256.1.
A. Pettigrew 44.8
Q.Watts 43.1
M. Johnson 44.7
S.Lewis 43.5
It is a shame that Reynolds, Watts, Johnson, and Lewis never ran one together, as they were all of the same era. All 4 guys had PR's of better than 43.78.
the best may have been in 1993 at Stuttgart when it was Andrew Valmon, Quincy Watts,
Harry Reynolds, Michael Johnson
Reynolds took off like he was running the 2, and Johnson had a 42.9 split
That one is very good too. Lewis had stronger PR's than Valmon or Pettigrew and 400 OG Gold and Silver, but had problems staying healthy and consistent.

That team would certainly get my vote. I remember the day clearly. I was pissed because I'd gotten hooked into driving my wife, a couple of her friends, my nephew and some of his friends to an amusement park (I HATE amusement parks!), and escaped during the middle of the day to watch the WC at a nearby electronics store.
Even watching it under those circumstances, Johnson's relay leg was one of those races that brought chills down your spine. Very much like his 200 in Atlanta. The greatest lap in the sport's history.
