Hall is out of the San Jose half. Who knows if it's really b/c of Competitor Group no $ policy... but when he says training setback, he seems to usually mean injured.

I'm beginning to think he just doesn't like racing. Now he can sit at home and blog about his epic workout that day.
It's the training. Whether that means injury or not, he could say. He's not saying much.
He's actually one of the precious few that wasn't affected by Competitor's change in policy. He was still getting paid.
He pulled out of Virginia Beach, too, didn't he?
He was also signed up for RnR Virginia Beach (DNS), now RnR San Jose DNS.
I predict NYCM DNS.
Let's hope the paydays come to a grinding screeching halt for him soon because he hasn't earned his pay in a very long time.
didn't he do a fast 29 miler on a treadmill about a month ago, lulz
The guy's accomplished a lot, he has a lot of ventures going on, and he has a lovely wife. So if he doesn't really care about racing anymore, that would be understandable. His blogs and Tweets barely even address serious training or racing.
Maybe he needs to collect a few more paydays, but the honest thing might be to say "I really don't care about this anymore."
" “After long discussions with my coach,"
Wait, hang on, who is his coach? Didn't he split with renato? I can't seem to find anything about who is coaching him now.

It meant he prayed about it.
Hall will DNF at NY. Sad to say, but I think his career his over.

From the article:
But no alternative plan arose for Vail. On September 19, he wrote, “After long discussions with my coach, we have decided to stick with the original plan of running San Jose on October 6. My original selection of San Jose was due to the extremely easy travel and ability to train through the half marathon to ensure that I do not peak 4 weeks out of NYC. This race [San Jose] is the best opportunity for me to be 100% for the marathon.”

In other words, the quote was about Vail and not Hall.
Reading is hard

Apparently. I'm not sure how I completely misread that. Thanks.

Not money
Hall is one of a very few athletes with deals that exempt them from the Computer Group edict that it will no longer pay appearance fees and travel expenses for elites. Asked if Hall's fee for San Jose might be guaranteed despite his withdrawal, a CGI spokesman told Newswire, 'Ryan's appearance deal will be rolled over into an race next year."
if Hall does not start/finish NYC he might as well retire
F--- this guy. Waste of talent, waste of time. Elites like Hall in the U.S. are the reason the sport of running is going where its going.
Hate to agree but geez, at some point you have to line up and run.
Sure, he's had a rough 2 years, but this speaks for itself:

Now if only he had the longevity and wasn't afraid to race, good or bad, like Bill Rodgers.
Thanks for posting that all-time list.
Ryan Hall is awesome. I haven't been able to run 8 marathons (former All-American), so to have 8 marathons under 2:09:40 is freaking phenomenal.
Why would someone at Hall's & Bei's level care about money from Competitor?

At their level, they are not winning marathon prize money are they? Appearance fees are their source of income
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
