831/833 is a great shoe.
880 is duilt on sl1 last (wide and deep)
831 is built on sl2 last (narrow and shallow)
in other words if you have a size 10 D in both these shoes, the 880 is actually wider.
in other words, if you have a wide, deep or very fat foot the 880 will be a better fit for you.
that said, screw nb, go with the brooks dyad over the 880, and the mizuno precision over the 831.
Actually, I think you got the SL1 and SL2 reversed. The 831 has the SL1 last, which is in fact narrower than the SL2. I think the SL1 is also a little more curved. So your conclusion is right, but the last nomenclature is switched.
Get your shoes right...831 - SL1 last, light weight, probably 2/3 the weight of the 880 - SL2 last, built for heavier runners, wider, higher in the heel...the 831 will last 2/3 of the time the 880 will as well, lower in the heel, softer upper, good tempo shoe, or even marathon racing shoe. Both are considered cushion shoes but put up against about any other brand, NB tends to make stiffer cushion shoes. NB has produced better control shoes, or high stability shoes then their cushion shoes...any other questions?
Oh, and I've been using the NB 83x since they were just 826. I like them, but get maybe 400 miles out of 'em before aches and pains start coming. I have a narrow foot (I get the "B" width), and that alone makes NB worth it. I don't know anything about the 880's.
And, it's "hearsay". Or, "heresy," if that's what you were going for.
haha... thanks for the spelling help...
why precision over 833?
The 831 is a faster and smoother shoe. The SL1 last gives it a snugger fit through the midfoot and forefoot. The 880 is heavier, wider and has a thick midsole - not very responsive. Comparable shoes to the 831 - Mizuno Wave Rider/Wave Precision, Nike Skylon, Asics Flash/Cumulus. Similar shoes to the 880 - Brooks Diad, Saucony Grid Trigon, Reebok Premier Road, Asics Nimbus (excellent shoe, the best if the bunch if it fits your foot).
the precision is more respnsive and the upper is a thousand times better. nb uses cheaper materials in their uppers that dont flex as nice.
But they're all high heels
