There is no such thing as sub sub sub elite.
What about sub sub elite?
Back in the day it would have been considered a good effort ,nothing more.Today maybe it is a sub3 - 4 elite.

I dunno, sub 2:10 is what I'd consider elite so under 2:35 is a solid time.
i'd call it "local elite" meaning that in most towns he's one of the fastest guys.
he'd probably clean up at 80% of marathon races nowadays, so that's worth something

1. The OP probably just ran a 2:34+ marathon
2. This whole thread is making me think about subs aka hoagies and therefore Hoagie Haven,.
Elite: 2:18 (If you can qualify for the Olympics, you're elite.)
Sub-elite: 2:30 (Many mid-sized marathons have this as their "elite" cutoff.)
Sub-sub-elite: 2:40 (A few marathons have this as their "elite" cutoff.)
So yeah he's better than sub-sub-sub-elite, he's sub-sub-elite.

Wow, nice to know Dathan Ritzenhein didn't hit the "elite" category til his 5th marathon. Glad you and your airmchair keep very high standards.

There is obviously a double standard when it comes to elites. For white Americans:
elite: sub 2:12
sub-elite: sub 2:30
sub-sub-elite: does not exist, but some (NYRR) call it "local competitive"
For East Africans racing in America:
elite: sub 2:08
sub-elite: sub 2:12
everyone else does not bring anything to the table
You are a 2:30ish marathoner that no one gives a sh*t about. How is that for a category?
