Are any canadian marathoners in the Olympics? Deacon did a great job last year at Pan Am in the heat, is he running? What about women?

We have 3 in the men's marathon. Here is a photo from pre-Olympic altitude
camp in Spain.
http://www.bober.ru/images/221.jpgThat was good.
In seriousness, no, we don't have any male marathoners (nor did we have any women). In fact we don't have any men in events longer than 1500m. Schiebler had B standard (2:17:21 from last year), but that's not nearly good enough for the COC.
Why don't some of the Canadians train with the Hansons? I think they have 4 or 5 guys that can run faster than 2:17. The Hansons have always included people that are looking for a training group. I understand that you have to be american to be an "official member", but I am just talking about training partners.
There's not a whole lot of interest in marathoning in Canada right now. Witness our national rankings, where 2:24 ranks you 3rd!
I'm not sure who these 2:17 guys are that you're referring to. We have a bunch of decent 5 km guys, but Schiebler has shown that it's not that easy to move up.
i thought schiebler debuted at 2:14 at nyc?

He did, but for a guy with a 10 km PB of 27:36, one would expect better (2:09 is a rough equivalent). I'm not saying he won't eventually run a good one (and I really hope he does), but for now you would have to say that he's an example of a guy who hasn't had much success with the move up.
This just in ... The Little Blue Cow will be lining up on Sunday in an attempt to salvage some Canuck pride. Based on his past performances, I like his (her?) chances!!
There were four Canadian women with the IOC A standard in the marathon. Nicole Stevenson, Sandy Jacobsen, Carol Howe and Tina Connelly. All were left at home to watch it on TV.
I'm unclear on the gender of the little blue cow. If it's giving milk, doesn't that mean it's a girl? But then again, it did compete in the men's 110 hurdles. Perhaps somebody with some agricultural background could help.
Yes the Little Blue Cow's gender is ambiguous. However, didn't the IOC specifically allow for trans-gender athletes in these Games? That being said, the jury is still out on trans-species athletes. Stay tuned.
The little blue cow isn't even blue. It's white with a blue leaf on it. It makes a nice dig beach volleyball though.
Scheibler could have done really well I believe in the Marathon for the same reason the Japanese women did so well in the womens marathon. He trains all year round in Japan where conditions are hot and humid.
There's a local kid here who ran 2:22 a couple of years ago while going to school full time and working a job at the local running store. There is just no support for our athletes to get them to that next level.
Andy Hahn is an Alberto Salazar type runner, living in the Windsor (Ontario) area, who has the potential to run a decent marathon in the 2:11-2:12 range, but he would have to train in decent weather to do this.

I hope this is Andy's mom or something. He hasn't run that pace for a half marathon. What is wrong with the weather in Windsor, isn't it the same as what the Hanson fellas are training in?

Not saying he could run 2:11, but he has broken 1:06 for the half.
Hansons also pop over the border in the winter to make use of the UWindsor indoor track.

Not that you can x-reference times, but...
His Dutch 5-10,000m twin ran the following and slower half. He's the only guy that I can see would have a shot at a NRecord in the marathon. Also, terrible with names, the Ottawa/ Arkansas/ low 28/ medical student/ retired runner would probably be capable of running a good marathon.

over the river to race at 20k. Not much has happened since
then in terms of distance.
