The ducks, how good?

Nobody knows yet, that is why we pay attention and wait for it.

Suddenly men's XC got interesting again at Oregon.

Dunbar is done and you can't count of Johnson just yet over a 10k XC course. Fleet should do well, but there are still durability concerns. They lack top-end depth to really compete with OSU and Colorado at this point, but I could see them sneaking in for a trophy, especially if Jenkins proves he's top 10 material. A lot of these guys are great on the track, but that doesn't mean they can handle the 10k distance of XC.

Stinson scored 240 points last year and Fleet I think 220. Unless they improve drastically (they should) I don't think OSU is too terrified of them.

I think Stinson, Jenkins and Elkaim all have a realistic shot at top 20. I'd bet money that they all won't do it, but I could also see one of them being top 12.

The big question marks are the two frosh (and I've heard from several people that one of them isn't eligible) and the milers. We assume the distance studs above will do well, but baller milers sometimes finish around 10th (Berryhill, Centrowitz, Ulrey)and sometimes (especially 800/miler types) struggle. Fleet seems to be more Wheating than Centro and I don't know a thing about Johnson. Can either of them be in the top 30?

It should be fun to watch.

More deluded fanboyism. Even after getting the top recruit in the country, they have 0 chance of winning.

Oregon shouldn't get their hopes up this XC season.

Jenkins: Yes, he is very good.

Stinson: good runner but inconsistent

Elkaim: good runner, but needs a break out year.

Cheserek/Leingang: great recruits, but they shouldn't depend on freshmen.

Johnson/Fleet: 800/1500 guys who aren't good at XC.

Others: loads of other talent on the team. They need someone to step up.

I predict a 9th place finish. They have talent and depth, but NCAA XC is a very tough race. They don't seem to have the experienced 10k guys a team needs to be top 4.

Oregon didn't get the top recruit in the Country the Ducks got the top 2 in the Country Jenkins,Cheserek hell the top 3 Leingang? spelling Oregon doesn't recruit crappy runners and only a fool with an offer from Oregon would turn it down for say Arizona lol

The Ducks "should" have a chance(team score):

Jenkins 1-10

Stinson 10-15

Elkeim 25-30

Ches, Frenchie, Melacon, Pickering, Leingang (40-100)

Very solid team.

As with all teams the "should" factor plays a big part.

Stanford "should" have won 2 times, but their 2-7 bombed.

Maybe they should have a chance, but they don't, because they are shite at coaching men's xc.

Portland just won a dual meet against the Ducks. it was close and hard fought, but round one to the Pilots. (note: I didn't see all of the UO Frosh and transfers, but the Pilot pack hung together better.)

When you blow it big at that race and are that talented you figure it out by the time you are a senior.

I don't know what the team environment with cross is like at Oregon but I'm pretty sure with their experience they won't let that happen again.

Portland did not win a Dual. Tell me how many of Oregon's freshmen ran? (answer: none); how many of their transfers ran? (answer: none). Did Fleet run? (answer: no) This was nothing more than a pre-season event to see which of the returning runners stayed in shape this summer and would like a shot at breaking into the top 7 team.

Ahhh...Portland's 11-15 guys just beat half of Oregon's varsity, to be accurate. Oregon guys were arrogant and really tired in the last mile. Pilot walk-ons lit 'em up.

Elkaim ran and was terrible.

Oregon ran thier C team maybe one of thier top 7 not a bad showing but let's just see how Stinson,Dunbar,Cheserek,Jenkins and Jake L and other do once they open thier seasons
