Specifically, would it be enough to get trail shoes to prevent slipping? I found that running, especially at tempo, in road running shoes (i) is an injury risk, (ii) slows me down, and (iii) presents a real danger causing me to slip and slide somewhere where I don't want to be, like onto an intersection. Thanks in advance y'all.
You could look at an orienteering type shoe. Something like an Icebug or Inov8 oroc has little metal bits integrated in the sole.

worked pretty well when i lived in CO, but so did learning to keep my feet under my center of gravity by not overstriding.
I tend to use trail or cross country spikeless flats, but, honestly, if it is truly icy -- as opposed to snowy -- nothing helps. It's the only weather condition that deters me from running...4 separate falls on ice resulting in broken bones later!
