Fast course, but she ran 17:48 in the same meet last year. 16:52 is the new all time fastest cross country 5K for an Indiana girl.

Who?
And the fastest ever by a High School girl on Michigan soil. Broke the record of 16:54.8 by Rochester's Megan Goethals in 2009 (Anna is from Indiana but her race Saturday was in MI...)

Anna Roher is, of course, the 2012 Girls Footlocker champion, and a superb runner. She has not had as much attention as Sarah Baxter and Mary Cain, but she is certainly someone whose progress is worth following.

Are you kidding? She runs for the mighty Cavemen of Mishawaka High.
Wait, kids are already back in school? And competing in invitationals?
Man, back in the day we didn't start until after Labor Day. And our first meet wasn't for a couple weeks. Is she planning on competing through the big meets in December? That's a long season.

If you can't handle a 3.5 month long season, then there's something wrong with you.
Great time for Anna! It's going to be a fun season to see how she runs against Baxter, Cain and the rest of the field!
Never heard of her. Maybe soon?
3.5 mos is not long. Except when there are races 1-2x per week for 3.5 months. That is too long.
Now if they are sensible, they'll tempo many of the races and reserve all out efforts for when it counts. Of course kids often wont do that and many coaches want them going all out.
it's not 1970 anymore - legit teams and individuals are not racing that much.

I went to a roadrace and a high school girl ran 17:08. I had never heard of her either since it was another state.
I used a website called "google". Maybe you have heard of it. Found out all kinds of info about her times and the races she has run in.
She won't race hard again for another month. This race was a fitness assessment, see what kind of shape she in, that's all.
" Never heard of her"

Probably because of her stress fracture problem. Nike has, she was at their Elite Camp last month. Good luck to her...deserves a healthy year to really see what she can do.

You helped make his point. Though it's certainly very good, it's not unheard of for a HS girl to run 17-ish for 5K, especially in XC.

She was a Footlocker National Champion, are you not a fan of the sport or what? She ran a great early time and is way ahead of where she was last year when she won nationals. Her coach knows what he's doing, this'll be a fun year.
Why would you think I am not a fan of the sport?
