Hi all,
My speed really sucks, though my endurance is somehow respectable (e.g. last time I tried a 100m sprint, I could only manage 16 secs, while I have a PR of 3.01 for the marathon). So I thought maybe I can work on improving my time by starting to train for short distances and then once I see some saturation, I move up the distance. E.g. Start with training for 1500 for half a year, then train for half a year for 5K, then for 10K, half, marathon..
is that a good way to train?
Or can I just train for marathon and include more speed work?
I have ran 9 marathons so far, first one in 2006, and all my training has been for these marathons (all my other PRs have been set either during the marathon or in tune up races while training for a marathon).
Some other facts
Age:38
Started running: 2004 (heavy smoker and 40lbs overweight at that time)
First marathon time: 3:32 (2006)
Best marathon time: 3:01 (2012)
1K: 3:15 (just tried it first time a month ago)
5K: 19:01
10K: 39:04
half:1:26
where I want to reach in the next 5 years:
marathon: 2:45 or lower
half: 1:20 or lower
10K: 36 or lower
5K: 17 or lower
1K: 2:55 or lower...
Any comments?
