If you paid attention with about 700 to go, Alamirew was in the lead, not letting Mo pass. With 600 to go Mo had had enough, so he surged, and Alamirew surged right with him! Eventually Alamirew cracked and faded to 7th place but at least he tried.
He and Koech looked like the only two who tried to switch something up to beat Mo. Unfortunately they needed teamwork to beat him which they didn't get.

This the same stupid tactic that led to 4 gold medals? Yeah not so stupid then.
Shows how difficult winding up the pace is from 800 or so out. Alimerew tries to give Mo a taste of his own medicine and completely destroys his own medal chances.

If they're so hell-bent on outkicking Mo instead of just running a faster 5000 than he can, what they need to do is draw straws and the loser sprints ahead of Mo at the bell and slows down while someone else passes them both, leaving Mo with 2 people to pass with 200 left.
Gebhriwet actually had the fastest finish with 53.4. But he couldn't get out of traffic quick enough. As soon as Alamirew faded, Lagat jumped up on the outside.

At some point in the 5's, Rupp has got to take the same chance, rather see him be there with 600 and fade to 6th, than just run to 6th.
Maybe in a few years we'll see him stronger and more aggressive/confident.

Don't think so. After a good indoor season, he has regressed this year outdoors. His race today was awful. He needs to talk to Slaney

Yes, it seems whenever Rupp makes a big move at the end, he is just following Farah, which means he is always way on the outside on the turns and letting Farah control the race... In general it just isn't a good strategy for placing well, certainly not for winning. Even though he looks good towards the end of the race he finishes last among the "real contenders."
