It is so frustrating to watch Jager take 5th and even more frustrating to hear his post race interview expressing disappointment.
He is right: He is more fit than ever. He should have been able to challenge for a medal.
The problem is this. You can be perfectly trained and supremely talented, which i believe he has been and is, BUT racing is as important a component of improvement as is the proper training. Especially an event like the steeple where it crushes you with supreme suffering at a certain point in the final K.
Evan must get calloused. He can time trial and do all the right workouts, but its not racing.
Jerry's group seems to race so little, i don't see the reason for it, and here, i think it shows itself as a major weakness.
Evan, if you run 3 more steeples this year, you WILL be at your optimum, and i think the 4 ahead of you better watch out!!
