Recently in Kenya it had been discovered by a few athletes that ice cream actually enhanced their performance. One specific runner went from 3:37 to 3:30 in the 1500 by incorporating ice cream through his training phases. By incorporating his favorite choice, "medieval chocolate madness", he reported improvement in overall oxygen intake during hard sessions as well as recovery from these sessions. Blending several ice creams into a milkshake served as a protein shake, delivering high quality proteins and sugars to repair the microtears within the muscles. This breakthrough is being experimented Benson Cheruiyot, head coach and director of the kenyan national running team, in all his athletes to enhance performance without the use of illegal doping methods. Cheruiyot suggests building up a tolerance to high amounts of ice cream during the base phase, and by the end of the season reduce intake by 50% in order to maximize the benefits. This is something all of us should seriously take a moment to consider in order to take our performance as runners to the next level.
