Was too keyed up...went out too fast.

As opposed to trying to run down aman from 6th place as his back running tactics would have allowed. Non sense, you should be happy for this oregon athlete but all of a sudden you're being a sell out. He wasnt beating aman today but he ran with guts to get silver.
Well the US men have lost this race for the last 41 years.
No Silvers in that time either ... until now.

You are sounding just like the Rupp haters you always argue with.
Symmonds ran the smartest race he could. Aman is a better 800 guy and therefore won. Please stop with your mindless ranting.
I thought he ran a pretty smart race - just not quite strong enough in the last 50m
Just more evidence of the obnoxious arrogance of the Oregon fans. Anyone who that anyone but Aman was going to win this race is an idiot. And I was for Solomon but knew his a$$ was cooked after the semi.
Symmonds has said in the past that going out that fast in the first 200/400 was not smart for him.
23.point into the race I knew he'd blown it.
In my mind he had to run under 1:42 to guarantee a win.
Meaning he had to PB to win...which is how it turned out.
Like the aggressiveness and the passion...but the result was a fail.
Would rather he had won, even if it had meant a relentless and insufferable self-promotion fest...
ideally nick would have been better off going 400m a little slower and drafting more.
BUT
he would have to risk getting boxed in and maybe probably have to run wide and be in traffic. remember this race figured to have most everyone in it for 700 meters plus.
what nick did was balls out and never risked getting stuck in traffic and scored silver and nearly gold.
great run plain and simple.
Symmonds has a right to be proud, though he really wanted the gold. Aman had more speed than anyone could thwart.
Relentless and insufferable. Hmm, I wonder who fits that description...

From the video it still looks like about 24 flat to me:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ck3oXjirPsQIs that really enough to kill him? I mean 24.8 like London would have been better but would that really have made the quarter-second difference he needed to win?

(Assuming you mean under 1:43) - which are you saying? He lost the only way he could, or he had to PB to win, i.e. he was a long shot? No way a PB was in the cards today - London had nicer weather, nicer track, more bodies in front of him to draft off of, and it was more strung out... I think Nick was afraid they'd get too bunched up at the end of the race this time around, so he didn't take any chances and positioned himself right behind Duane rather than risk getting boxed - something that has happened to him in 800m finals before.
Aman is just the better overall 800m runner. More strength and speed. He was going to lose it either way, even off a faster pace, so long as Aman brought his A game.
THERE IS NO WINNING WITH YOU GUYS
Complains when Nick Symmonds goes out to slow.
Complains when Nick Symmonds goes for it in the first 400.
Everyone just accept and be happy that an American got a medal in a "distance" event (I know it's technically a mid-distance) because I don't think anyone else will in Moscow after Rupps flop.
Let's give Aman some credit here too. He may have been the favorite, but I though he was done when he was in the pack from 400 through about 550m, but somehow he cut through the traffic on the inside and was in position to unleash his kick.
Symmonds ran a hell of a race, and has had a hell of a season. He was beaten today, by a guy who was in great shape and ran a great race. No shame in that.
I agree! I'm happy that Symmonds won silver! Here's guy that no major college wanted, goes to a DIII school and just works his butt of for years, wins a bunch of 800m national titles, and now all his hard work has paid off with a WC silver.
Symmond did not win silver. He LOST Gold. Face it fan boys. He got lucky because all the real 800m stayed home

Dude, please stop your juvenile delusions.
You think he didn't know he needed a PB to win with Aman in the race?
He then went and did exactly what he said was suicidal for him, he went out in 24ish and then paid for it in the last 30meters.

No delusions from me. You are the delusional one with all of your 'what if' strategy games you are playing. Classic arm chair quarterbacking. It doesn't matter what Nick would have run the first 200, 400 or 557m, Aman was better than him and still would have won. And you would STILL complain about the strategy used regardless of how Nick finished second.
Stick with defending your buddies in Al's group and drop this shtick. You are making yourself look like a drama queen.
It was interesting that he took to the front even before the bell lap. You never see that from him in U.S. races the he dominates let alone a world championship final. Then he got outkicked. It was like the bizzaro Nick Symmonds race.
But great race. You can nitpick about going too soon but at the end of the day he got silver losing only to a great runner in Aman in a fast time.

Lol, you are the drama queen for sure.
I called the race how I saw it, based on Symmonds own comments.
If you can't handle that, grow a pair.
