She's in 3rd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She's in 3rd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2:26:20 for Noguchi!
Ndereba SILVER
Kastor BRONZE
Alemu 4th
Good that Kastor gave a big shout out to her Nike Ice Vest (tm)
pfft
Kastor? Isn't she an asics athlete?
BRILLIANT RACE BY DEENA!!!!! AWESOME!!!!!
SHE CAN NAME HER PRICE NOW...nice plug for NYC marathon after she finished.
Immense race. These ladies did themselves proud.
Note NDEREBA and the Japanese both barfed on camera.
How about the endorsement she gave to Nike. Doesn't she run for Asics?
Here's a perfect example of why NBC needs new "experts" for their T&F/Running event broadcasts. Rawson and Liquori (and others) talk too damn much and pretend to know a lot more than they really do.
Elasped race time = 2:04:54
Liquori: "You know, Paula Radcliffe is one tough person, and you know Catherine Ndereba maybe a little bit better as far as her competetive nature, they're not gonna give up this early in the race. There's still 15 minutes or more to go, there's a lot of racing to go. Everyone's got that last little effort that they have been saving."
Rawson: "Fatigue can make cowards of us all, but not these women."
Elaspsed race time: 2:07:03 ....
Rawson: "Will gold go to Japan? Paula Radclippe, Paula Radcliffe has just stopped!"
Rawson: "36k. About 3.5 miles left in the race at that point. No, yes, that's correct. Would you just say she's outta gas?"
Liquori: "She has come to an emotional end, physical breakdown at the same time. "
Rawson: "And there silence in the stadium among thousands of fans from Great Britian."
NOTE: Total time between Liquori's and Rawson's "expert" commentary and Paula giving up = 2 mins and 7 seconds. Nice call guys. Add this to the looooong list of yet another disgusting commentary by these clueless fools.
NBC needs to compare their performance against other orgainzations (i.e. Eurosport, BBC, etc.) and objectively determine if they are putting the best product out there for their viewers. IMO they have a LONG way to go as this thread shows.
why do they need to put out the best possible product when they're the only product? what are we gonna do, not watch? even if you mute it, you're still helping nbc's ratings.
while i appreciate that they covered the whole race without going to other sports, they can have these 2 blathering idiots cover the race and the only people it irritates are the 1% of us in america who actually know anything about running. if these guys called the race for eurosport they'd be gone in 2 seconds but not for an american network that televises for an ignorant public.
The guys on Eurosport were excellent, either their comments were accurate enough or they simply shut up, gave the play-by-play, and stayed out of the way. Why couldn't NBC just pay for the rights to their audio to run with the video footage?
Football fans wouldn't stand for this level of dopiness.

note how quickly mr. miller was gone from abc.
Tim Hutchings did the commentary for eurosport? Wish I could of heard that instead, he is great. How come Carey Pinkowski and the CBS affiliate in Chicago can get Hutchings and Toni Reavis to do color for the Chicago Marathon, but NBC can't? Those two are such pros they make Larry and Marty sound like they are doing public-access television.
One last Rawson-ism:
Rawson: "The runners are anywhere from 2 to 3 minutes away from entering the stadium."
[NOTE: 17 seconds later Noguchi enters the stadium.]
T-man ....
I'd be curious to know what kind of viewing audience (numbers) NBC had for this race. I personally find it unacceptable that an OLYMPIC final could be broadcast with such a low level of professionalism as was offered today. Ignorant public or not, NBC should be ashamed of themselves for putting fools like this behind the microphones.
Call me a fool for having higher expectations from a network that has spent BILLIONS on broadcast rights to such high level events like the Olympics. It's bad enough that they spend all that money in the first place, it's even worse that they make us suffer through a countless number of mind-numbing commercials as they try to recoup their "investment", but it is entirely disgusting that they hire second and third rate talent like Rawson, Liquori, and Carol Lewis to dumb down such a simple sport as running / track & field. This is not rocket science.....stop trying so hard to impress us with words. Give us the video and shut the hell up.
Please.
As someone on the Track & Field News Forum recently wrote: "Life sometimes is tough for us, living as we do in a post-literate culture."
Doesn't that constitute some sort of foul?
Good point, want to bet that several of the posters HERE could handle that race better?
Brilliant strategy by Kastor.
This was a terrific race, and if I had kept the MUTE button pushed, may have been even better.
The Men's Marathon should be so good.

Yes, but absent a protest will probably getaway with it!
"A humand hydroplane with a V-8 Engine." He said that at least a half a dozen times.
Nike provides the official Olympic uniforms for all of the USA competitors.
