Listen to your body. If you go all out, it might not be a great day for a long run.
Also, in the early races of the year, do you guys avoid going all out? I believe that your body and mind should be subjected to very few "all out" races. They are simply too taxing. Push the envelope, feel the pain, but don't go all out until a race or two before it counts.
Anyone agree?
I was thinking moreso of early season races, races wherein you're actually "training through the races" (easy distance the day before the race but certainly no pre-meet). Perhaps making it a medium-distance run with emphasis on starting out very very very slowly would be better. Of course as you suggested, listening to one's body would still be the key!
Shouldn't be a problem as long as it's easy. Lot's of guys do a long run after their race, kind of relaxing if you ask me.
I did a long run after a race in 1984 and couldn't run again until 2002.
seriously. I did an easy long run the day after a race in October 2001 and got hurt. injury led to injuries on opposite leg that still haven't totally healed right. not saying it wouldn't have happened but shit.
