Anybody ever used a passport for ID at a bar?

Yes, you'll be fine. Nobody would fake a passport.

Havent done it but in my line of business go out with a lot of foreigners who use their passports without issue. You should be fine with a Passport and probably wont even get strange looks.

I was denied entry exactly ONE TIME using my passport. A dingy little bar in Northern California with the front door manned by a surly dirtbag.

I used to use mine when I first came to the states because it was my only ID, but I was denied a couple times. Twice maybe out of a few hundred. Most of the time it's fine.

obviously you just need to be more careful not to lose it especially if you get drunk. zippered pocket or something. don't leave it in a jacket that you might drunkenly forget.
