1. Create 10-16 regional clubs in the US and Canada.
2. Pay professional athlete salaries (maybe $40k base during season) for 10-20 athletes per club.
Standardize the roster setup:
4 sprinter (100-400)
4 middle distance (800-5000)
2 jumpers
2 throwers
4-8 additional spots that can be any specialty
3. Set up training/racing venues in each city where a club is based.
4. Hold a 3 month regular season with 3-4 quad-meets per season.
2 hour meets
Scored as a team
5. Pay for the coaching/training/management staff of each organization.
Leave the shoe brands out of the sponsorships for any team(s). If Nike wants to provide the uniforms and shoes for every club, that's fine, but adopt a model similar to Soccer, where the sponsors are electronics and automotive companies.
With the issue of "amateurism" being defunct for as long as it has, why is there still such a dependence on USATF?
Brojos? Nick Symmonds? Sally Bergesen? You all know more than I do about this situation, but are we talking $2 million per club to get this set up? $10 million?
Whatever the amount is, it IS attainable. Hell, I'm sure Mark Cuban will sponsor a team in Dallas, so we just need a dozen or so more donors!
We can't make progress until we know what the end result looks like and have a solid idea of what it will take to get there. Let's make this happen within 5 years. I am serious. Do it. Come on everybody. Do it.
