People who follow running would find it interesting/noteworthy/topical if Wisconsin a perennial XC powerhouse would fail to qualify for nationals in 2013.

Texas won't make it.

Once Mick gets named head coach, cross country will be blowing up with stud recruits. Track team will go into toilet, but xc will win another title soon.

That being said, that Wisconsin team will struggle to 3rd at Big 10s.

Call it the curse of Suzy Favor - they shouldn't have removed her name from the award.

Mick is apparently the new head, of M&W XC and of track (both?). The change in the position makes it exempt from some of the search requirements, I think. Apparently Mick was offered a combined M&W position at North Carolina last year and they were working on response to that. Apparently also, Stinzi is staying at Wisconsin.

Also, Drew Shields was listed on the Track roster this spring and may be back for XC if his recovery continues (I have no idea how that is going but he has probably had enough time now to be coming back from a significant problem). He had an 8:49 steeple a couple of years ago and was 112, Wisconsin 6th at NCAAs XC a couple of years ago.

Shields is also taking up an entire scholarship.

What odds are you offering that Wisco won't qualify? I may want some of that action.

Wisconsin has qualified for XC NCAAs 40 years in a row. More than any other team (Colorado had qualified 20 consecutive years in 2013). If history and tradition mean anything to you, it is unlikely that they will not qualify.

I think some of their stud guys might still be taking up track scholarships but are done with XC which hurts them.

Curious when you were listing Michigan and MSU were you putting their kids in order?

I'll take that bet. I'm not saying they will qualify for sure but I think the team will be better than you think. Mick knew this would be an issue running those guys last year but getting a 2nd was worth it.

And the Regional is in Madison.

It will be interesting to see if Wisconsin makes it. I don't think Oklahoma will make it in and Texas might scrape in.

This thread is a joke--Wisconsin will win Big Tens, qualify, and finish in the top 10 at Nationals. Here is why:

-Drew Shields will be back after injury but has been working out since March

-Rob Finnerty may very well be granted a 6th year to run XC (Mark Amirault recently did this at UVA)

-RS Freshmen Malachy Schrobilgen and Russ Sandvold will step up BIG time

-Jake Erschen, and possibly Sam Hacker will help to solidify the top 7

-4 of the 5 guys you mentioned (not sure about Naylor) are proven runners and can compete on the national level

Mick Byrne and Wisconsin always find a way to win....always....the streak will continue, albeit it may be one of the closest wins in recent years.

Well, assuming that Arkansas will win the South Central Regional over Texas (may or may not happen), all Texas would have to do to automatically qualify is to beat A&M. Texas will beat Texas A&M, who dont have Leilei anymore either
