Lucas Rotich now looking at the marathon. Kipchoge becoming a road racer. The younger talent in Kenya understandably does not have much of a reason to focus on the longest track event, and so you have opportunities for even a Galen Rupp to medal.

As the US gets more and more good runners you'll see that happening here, too.
If you're not gonna make the WC or OG's why not travel the world making money running road races?
Being a top road racer is the best way to meet fit girls, then you move on to another town.
It's win/win.

quick
name the number of people with a 1500m/mile pb of 3:33/3:50 and a sub 26:50 10k.

What does that have to do with anything?
kenny b, geb, mo farah

Quick, name the number of 10k runners who have had multiple indoor rabbited mile races set up for them to try to run 3:50 indoors?
One, the rupster. Why? Because nobody else has wasted their time doing the same thing. He barely broke 3:51 and it was on Boston's track in a time trial= 3:53 equivalent

Their expected performance in the 10,000m due to their fitness and tactical speed of the runners?
Wait a minute. So now you are saying Rupp has the opportunity to medal?

Don't get excited. I was speaking of the fact that....clear the throat...somehow Galen DID medal. Obviously it won't happen this year, as he cannot beat Farah and Gebremeskel. This leaves one spot, and lightning won't strike twice.

A 3:50 mile is the equivalent of a 3:53 mile? Some real f*cking geniuses we've got on this board

if you can't figure that out on your own it's not worth explaining
You people find a way to transform so many threads into a discussion of Galen Rupp. It appears to border on an obsession with some of you. Galen probably likes the attention, although even he and Alberto know that Galen wouldn't have even won Peachtree yesterday, as the roads would humble him.
Well, you DID reference Galen in the OP, so maybe the "obsession" lies somewhere closer to home?
i think will we will see a new face win and medal in Moscow. its interesting though so many who has a chance to win. mo farah is indeed sharp but he can lose, like he did to soi, if he isnt on his very top day. when kenny b and geb were rolling, even if they had a bit of a bad day their standard were so high they would pull a victory any way. as it played out in london last year, the africans are almost the underdogs this year, chasing mo and galen.
btw, do you think mo sees himself as an african or westerner. does he bond more with galen or with the africans?
Now we are down to presumptively devaluing a medal. Seriously, who are the sub 26:40 Kenyans? Rotich and Kilchoge failed to make the Olympic team. The best Kenyan who made the team finished 5th.
Preemptively
“I do not coach 10,000 metres runners. They do not remain here long. They leave,”
probably the most poignant quote ever for kenyan athletics
the country has had 4 guys run under 26'37 not including sammy who ran 26'41 at 18y off suicidal 26'16 pace at 6k
they have not had a ~ sub-26'37 clocking since sammy ( although lucas wouda done it if offered 13'20 pace instead of rubbish 13'25 - he's 2nd string talent )
i just hope either wilson kiprop has some form this year or geoff mutai enters 10k trials
i hope geoffey qualifies
he can run 26'30 solo of his M training
( assuming bit injured after drop-out in london '13 M - i heard leg injury )
( or even that stoopendous 1/2M in dubai in january/february )
( probably couda run 26'05 - 26'15 off his his new york M win while back - off M training
i'm not joking )
geoff kipsang was probably in 26'15 - 26'20 shape in his dubai win
hope he is fit for trials
DO NOT LOOK AT CLOCKINGS
LOOK AT TALENT !
Nice try ventolin, but you missed the money quote.
Here it is: "Athletics is Kenya’s most successful international sport because it has an economy that works."
As with everything running related to the Kenyans, it has to do with money. If the Diamond League is not putting up enough 10ks, no one is willing to kill themselves in training specifically for that event. Its too long of a race to do repeatedly at high quality in one summer running season. Better to focus on track 5ks or longer events one the roads to win more money.
These are professional athletes deciding how best to finance their short athletic careers.

Why are you nice trying him? What did he do wrong?
that post converting the 3:50 mile to a 3:53 has to be one of the greatest all time posts.
