XFit guy is completely out of his realm of expertise with this one. That was blatantly obvious when he dropped the skinny fat comment.
Relative to races like the mile, 5k, 10k, sprinters probably are not burning as many calories in one race. When sprinters go through heats, semis, and finals, then they rack up the energy consumption. At the real elite (Bolt, Gay, Blake, etc) level, I have to imagine they expend a LOT of energy because they are trained to expend all of their energy over a very short distance.
