Whats the general consensus on this theory?
Obviously some of the best Marathoners come from a 10km background and therefore have sufficiently raised there LT to allow them to do fast 'Aerobic' Running.
Given that running large volumes of 100 miles / 160 km per week is not an option, however 50-55 miles / 80-90km per week is, would I be better off spending 8 out of the 16 weeks doing 10k focused workouts in order to raise my threshold before the final 8 weeks stretching these workouts out to spend more time at Race Pace (The final weeks i'll be able to do 100-120km weeks)
I'll be running a 2 week cycle where I'll hit 5 key sessions over the 2 weeks
By 10km workouts I am talking about;
- 15 x 600m at 101-103% 10km RP, 1:30 recovery
- 12 x 800m at 101-103% 10km RP, 1:30-2:00 recovery
- 10 x 1000m at 101-103% 10km RP, 1:30-2:00 recovery
- 4 x 2000m at 102% + 1 x 1000 at 107% 10km RP, 4min recovery
Thoughts? Constructive Criticism?
