It would be awesome if they had a masters mile race in the Olympics
WEBB!!
Then withrow. Withrow was the f'ing man. Tough as nails.
Screw verzbicas! The guy is the most overrated athlete! He wasn't even american! Parents out of the Ukraine or some USSR place. Best comeback would be Webb. If this guy got his $hit together he would be king of the mile. He would run laps over any miler! And then he would be able to shove rudisha around for a nice 800 dual! He just seems to clunky and big for longer stuff. Another comeback would be Tim Montgomery. The dude sat in prison for 10 years it be hilarious to see him come out of his cell, all the push-ups and sit-ups run him to a 9.7.

The age of this board is revealed when you read a thread like this one. Nearly all of the responses are by guys in the last 10 years.
Not much knowledge of the history of the sport. This board thinks guys like Bob Kennedy and Todd Williams are old timers. Not much knowledge of the 50's or 60's or anything prior to Prefontaine.
Correct. You have to actually be somebody before you can make a comeback.
Half of this thread people who stagnated or never reached their (real or perceived) potential.
Correct answers: Webb, Wariner.

Why do you think people should get excited about athletes from the 50's or 60's?

I would really like to see McDougal come back, but not too quickly. Almost all comeback attempts seem to end in disaster, because the athletes try to make it all the way back to elite status over 9-12 months. I would like to see Josh take a slow and steady 3-4 year comeback (preferably with training updates). No hero workouts, no stressing over times or finish position while building back, and no outside coaching. Just run by feel everyday and let the fitness comeback slowly through consistent and sustainable training.

I'm always waiting to see a random result of a road race or something where Josh runs 14:20 or so, sparking what you write of.
Like that Toronto 5000m in 2009 where he ran 14:29. Yeah it was slow, but he raced again!
Duncan Kibet. Probably getting too old to get back to his prime form, but his career was too short. I loved watching his ultra smooth, long strides in the marathon. And he was an E. African who actually had a fun and interesting personality.
