It is a great day for civil rights. Scalia's crazy bench statement not withstanding, the Supreme Court made the US a little fairer today.
But what will happen with Prop 8?

Technically DOMA was denying benefits, not the marriage itself. It's not quite there yet, but yes, the Prop 8 decision will be interesting.
No standing for the defenders. Lowest court struck it down - Prop 8 gone?
(Gay) Pride goeth before the fall.
Polygamy is next. At this point, what valid argument can be used against it?
Can't wait to read the dissenting opinion on how they justify continuing discrimination.
As Robert Bork once wrote (prophecied really), we truly are slouching toward Gomorrah.

Good. Send us a card when you get there.
I'm going to marry a big sequoia tree

as long as they are consenting adults, what *is* wrong w/ ploygamy? Who cares? Why do you care?
If a guy wants to marry his lawn furniture, he should be able to. Who really cares?
It will be as it was in the days of Lot and Noah when the Son of Man returns.
Interestingly the only argument people have against this decision is religious and as you know there is a hard separation of church and state.
Today is the day the lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad.

So if there is a, "hard separation of church and state" why does the state have anything to do with what ordained by God and has always been a religious ceremony? Quite a convenient way for you all to somehow hijack a religious rite for your own selfish reasons. Where's your logic?
In determining whether a law is motivated by improper animus or purpose, discrimination of an unusual character especially require careful consideration. DOMA cannot survive under these principles.
Well I agree the government should dissolve all marriages (gay and straight). It should not be in that business. If they don't dissolve all marriage, they have no right choosing who can marry.

I'm reading that they declined to rule on Prop 8; instead sending it back to Cali and the Federal District Court which overturned it in the first place. Therefore, Prop 8 is done in Cali. Gay marriage is legal again.
i THINK this does not open the floodgates, but does set a precedent that others may use to try to strike down anti-gay-marriage laws in other states.

Thought it was a sin to be coming by hand.
