I mean, Ryan Hill just got 3rd.

probably. he really let down his fans by bailing
so must be lomong
Leer ain't beating Ryan Thrill.

Lomong's hamstring was hurting. He would have been a lock, fast or slow, if he ran. Multiple times this week he said he loves the heat and he prefers the 5000 to the 1500.
yeah major mess up on Leer's part.
will leer doubled back at d3 track champs in 2007 to win the 5k, but he can't be convinced to double back for a chance at the world championship team??

Disagree. Lomong is already on a team and has been on teams in the past. Two things that aren't true for Will.
He could have handled another 1500m in that weather.
Maybe now we know why Leer comes up short at Natl's: Doesn't want a World/Olympic berth bad enough. Manzano would finish last w/o desire.

Because the fields are so similar.
I am not sure why he would not just start the race and see what happens. He could have been there with Hill who or Rupp who ran other races as well.
I find it hard to believe that Leer skipped the race after missing out on the 1500m. He had run 13:20 in a winning effort and had great finishing speed. And this race was tailor made for a miler.
Is he self-coached. I have a hard time believing any coach would let him slag off in favor of maybe running 3:34 this summer.
Just about anyone from the 1500 final could have made a race of it for third in the 5k. Even Mary C. figured out it was cheap insurance against a disaster in the 1500. It actually turned out to be pretty good insurance for Rowbury. USATF would have to cooperate by filling out the field completely for the men - kind of incomprehensible why they didn't. We might have actually gotten some naïve fellow who would have tried to run the full 5000 meters.
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
Des Linden: "The entire sport" has changed since she first started running Boston.
Matt Choi was drinking beer halfway through the Boston Marathon
Ryan Eiler, 3rd American man at Boston, almost out of nowhere
