Ashley for 3rd place instead of Kip.
Bush wins! She is back after a long long time and looked great
Worst race of the meet. Bunch of girls that can't run the other events that was an awful field.

Jager is in a different league.
Furman will be steeple hub over next couple years with Gary.
Men and women.
Doubt any of these ladies will make the final, if they even get the standards to go. Really unfortunate not to have Coburn in there to give the US someone fighting for top 10.
This is what runners like Sara Hall and Sara Vaughn thought too. You're ignorant of the event.

.
That goes to the women's 1500. Slowest time in more than a decade.
Women: 1st place "A" standard, 2nd and 3rd "B" standard, 4th "A" standard. 2nd and 3rd have to run 4 secs faster to get "A" standard which should not be a problem after running 9:46 in near 100 degrees. Should have 3 "A" standards representing US so Hardly a bunch of non-qualifiers. Agree that none may make final but that remains to be seen. It's 7 weeks to Moscow so they have a lot of time to improve. Higginson and Kipp seem to just be getting into top shape after struggling a little earlier.
Bush ("A") and Higginson ("B") are in. Kipp needs the "A". Don't be surprised if Salazar sets up a steeplechase in Portland for Kipp (that is, for Wetmore).

Got to give Bush credit for leading. 1500 girls needed a Bush.
Sorry for Franek. Kipp is just Kipp. Happy for Ashley. Coburn is at a different level. Bummed she is hurt. Would have competed for a medal.
Bush says in her flotrack video that she had been hoping to go with Coburn and at least "put on a good race" if she was in the field. It's awesome that Gary has gotten her going again as she is one of the few women who has the gumption to hammer, lead, fight, race when fit.
Bush might be the only one who will/can take on coburn when she starts racing again. Awesome for us steeple women.
I think Rob is one of the best steeple coaches for sure, but Emma is in a different league entirely. That being said they've done a great job getting Bush back on track and a couple more years may do the trick. Did Bush work with Rob last year too or just as part of new Furman Elite group?
Long ways for Gary to go before being mentioned with Wetmore in the steeple world. Bush is first woman he has ever coached and Wetmore has had Nelson and Slattery on men's side. Even Eyestone may be ahead.
I think Bush worked with Walt Drenth (a pretty good steeple coach in his own right) throughout most of her early success, at least through her 2nd at USA's in 2010. To the best of my recollection, she was 4th at the trials in '08, broke her foot in '09 as a favorite to make the team, and then had a decent '10 before struggling with injuries. I think she spent most of the time between '11 and now working with Kelly and Cal Poly. That didn't work out, and now this is her first year with Robert Gary.
She certainly isn't where Coburn is yet, but she might be the one US woman outside Barringer who can get to that level. If she makes the final at worlds, it'd be a good start.
I guess I live under a rock. I thought Emma was in this race.
She is so fun to watch. No one is as graceful as her.
I'm just so happy Bush has found her way back and connected with Robert and reconnected with Rita
I would put money on her making a final at Worlds and her being a player with anyone in years to come. Coburn has the benefit of consistent training with a great coach for multiple years - nicole has been with the garys for just six months! Give her some time. she is in a great situation and a very talented young lady.
It'll be really interesting to see what Robert Gary does with some elite level women. I'd imagine that most elite steeple prospects coming out of college are going to give that group a look.
Let's remember though, Bush worked with possibly the best non-Wetmore women's steeple coach in the country until at least 2010. Drenth doesn't get a ton of credit, but in addition to Bush he coached Kelly MacDonald and Lisa Aguilera at Arizona State. He also has a girl right now whose name escapes me that I saw run at the Big Ten meet that may be the future of the event. Young and a little raw, but you can tell she's a big talent.
Leah O'Connor was the MSU girl who won Big Ten steeple this year. News report said it was her first-ever steeple?
That's right. And then she was the 5000 the next day by putting 3-4 seconds on the field in the last 150 meters. Don't know a ton about her, but looks like she could have a big future.
