Men and Women's 800m final at USAs!!! Stackeddd!

No Maggie Vessey or Phoebe Wright. Actually, what happened to Phoebe? I saw her pull off the track at 400m.

I was surprised at how much Gall struggled in the last 80 meters.

I don't even know what to say about the Men. That's going to be ridiculous. And yes, the best single race of the Meet.

Every man has the "A", and while Martinez and Montano have the "A", all the others have the "B".

In the women's race, Martinez has looked sterling, and it's hard to pick against her. I think Montano comes in second, and Laura Roesler, a clutch performer, comes up big for third, despite a long season. In the men's race, I think Solomon will beat out Symmonds, with Johnson getting third. All three women will be under 2; all three men will be under 1:44.8.

the 1500s are much better. the 800s don't have a single olympic or worlds medalist. the 1500s have 2 plus uceny who was number 1 in the world and who would have medaled had she not been tripped at worlds.

The thing with the 1500, in my opinion, is that it is very predictable. On the men's side you have Centro and then Lomong/Leer/Wheating/Manzano (although the latter 2 are flaky as hell as the likely 2nd and 3rd. I would like to see Mac Fleet make it and take Lomong's spot and have Lomong get in the 5k. Other than that, there's not many other guys who could make the team (excuse me if I missed anyone, those are the main contenders off the top of my head).

Similarly, in the women's 1500, you have Cain and Moser going 1-2 most likely. The 3rd spot is up for grabs.

The thing with the 800m is that it really is anyone's race. Sure, it is hard to beat against Symmonds and Solomon based on their credentials but most of those guys have been racing respectively well all season and I wouldn't be surprised to make any of those guys make the team.

Just a final thought: I'm glad Weissenbach finally hit a massive PR after a not so great freshman career (relatively to her astounding 2:02 performance in high school). She's barely going to be a sophomore next year!

It's more that of the 12 guys in the 1500 final, only five really have a chance to be there at the end. The 800 could be eight wide down the stretch. It never ends up way that way, one guy will be off his game, another guy will get cut off, another guy will just have bad tactics. We just don't know who those three guys are. We know which five will be fighting down the stretch in the 1500.

this is ridiculous. the women's 800 is martinez and montano going 1-2 with little other drama other than which one wins. the rest of the field is there to battle for third and not one has the A standard so it's not like it is a killer field. the men's field is symmonds and solomon going 1-2. the other 6 are stronger than the other 6 in the women's race but it's not like any of them ever has done anything internationally.

the 1500s have multiple olympic/worlds medalists led by centro, manzano and uceny. rowbury probably will have a medal from london in a few years. wheating and lomong are multiple time olympians. 2 flat for a woman is nothing at the world level so getting worked up over 6 women running 2 and change is silly. the bottom line is that the top end of the 1500s is better and so are 3 through 8. someone really good is going to get left home in the 1500s and, unless something shocking happens, that won't be the case in the 800s as i think 4 of the 6 slots already are accounted for.

I agree, Gall is not running well and her usual 2:00 flat might not cut it here.

Mens field is awesome. I hope it doesn't go out in 53 though like it sometimes does. if it's a quick pace, it might take a 1:43 high to win. Sowinski is a threat to make the team, and Johnson looked pretty well despite Lewis Johnson's useless comments about him going for the win in the semi's. Charles Jock looked better last year.
