Could they have chosen a worse spot to put the camera? It was almost a head on view and impossible to tell where everyone was.

+1
I thought it was bad just for the livestream feed earlier today, with the semi's etc .. but this is ESPN 2 for the finals? Awful.
Agreed
I agree, but given that they ran the race up the home straightaway to take advantage of the wind, and from the finish line to the end of the stadium there was only about twenty meters, where would they be able to put the camera?

Try to keep in mind who the meet is for. I got up and moved to get a better view. If you aren't at the meet, sorry. Great race nonetheless.
while we are on this topic, why did they run the 100m in the opposite direction as is customary? Does anyone know?

so the sun wasn't in the runners eyes.

Yes. The want fast times with the wind at their back. In the first round, the guys were running like 10.40. Tyson Gay ran 10.28.
It would be a total buzz kill if the winning times were that slow. I think USATF deserves credit for switching things up although the camera angle is truly awful, but I think that's better than having a 10.20 winning time.

The meet clearly isn't for the spectators but for tv/perception. If it was for the few spectators in attendance, they wouldn't move the finish line to the other end of the stadium.
At DL meets, you often see times run into the wind even though the camera could be switched because there is reserved seating and people pay a huge premium to sit at the finish.

The serious answer is so that they would have a tailwind.
Gotta make sure everyone gets the "A" standard. (Wink)
