I've been off my bike (a stock GTB track bike) for a few years now. I always rode it in the streets with a single front brake. It was a combination of being too lazy and cheap to repair it, running, and a girlfriend. Wednesday I took my bike in and put ~$400 into it. New bars, tape, aero brake, saddle, tires, tubes, chain, pedals, and cages.
This morning I rode it 8 miles (4:00, 3:11, 3:39 [uphill], 3:29 [uphill], 3:12, 3:00 (downhill), 3:15, 3:20). I could feel my quads the whole time, but my breathing was easy and I only broke a minimal sweat.
Let's say I ran 3 miles in the same conditions, I would have needed ~30 minutes to cool down and stop sweating. I think I was totally cooled down after 5 minutes.
How long do I need to ride at those speeds to get a similar stimulus as running and what's a SWAG on the ratio of B:R?
2:1? 3:1?
Also, does doing a good bike session in the morning and running in the evening count as doing doubles?
Hoping some informed runners or tri-guys can chime in. Oh yeah, I'm 37 and my 5K PR is 19:19 (from 24:45) off 11 months training. Go ahead and laugh.
